Cornell University System

Could somebody explain to me how an undergraduate eduaction works at Cornell.

How many credits do I need?

How much is "much" for one semester?

How many credits do I need for a major/minor?

Are majors "credit-specific", if so where do I find how much is required for each major?

How many credits are allowed to be registered at another college (than CAS) and how many each semester?

Thanks alot for answering my questions! :)

it all depends. If you are in CAS, then you are required to have 100 credits from classes taken within CAS upon graduation, and 120 or 125 credits total (I forget which). In one semester one takes at least 12 credits, and at most 20-24, but most take 14-18 credits. You can pretty much take as many classes at another college as you like, as long as you get the 100 required CAS credits.

Are any courses mandatory?

Like one physical education, one writing class etc?

Also, could the same course count towards two different majors?

I believe so

The College Scholar Program seems so awesome!

I will definitely apply! :D

bump

10char

I find the best way to find out answers to Cornell specific questions is to search the Cornell site.

Are you in Arts and Sciences?

Take a look at the following two links; they should answer most of your questions:

[College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University](http://www.arts.cornell.edu/departments.php)

[Courses of Study 2008-2009: College of Arts and Sciences](http://courses.cuinfo.cornell.edu/AS.php)

How many credits do I need?
It depends on what college you’re in, but for CAS you need 120 total in order to graduate, with at least 100 being from within CAS itself.

How much is “much” for one semester?
First-semester freshman are not allowed to take more than 18 so that they don’t overwhelm themselves, and I think that’s probably a good number to go with. Like TBoone said, most take 14-18.

How many credits do I need for a major/minor?
Different majors have different requirements, so you’d have to look into that yourself depending on what field you think you’re going into.

The links akaCondi pasted should answer all your questions, but hopefully I helped a little. :)
