As for my first question, what I basically mean is this: Are students at CAS allowed to take classes at any of the other colleges? And if someone were to pick a major, are they allowed to take classes that belong to a different department (and if so, how many)?

Cornell seems like a really great place and I want to learn as much about it as I can. So if you have anything else to add that you think makes Cornell great, feel free to share! :)

some courses are meant for majors only. I have looked at some theater courses that specify that. also, I think there are other courses that are extremely hard to get into if you are not in the college/major.

but you could definitely sign up for normal courses in Human Ecology or CALS, for instance.

I am not a student in A&S so I am not sure if there is a limit to the amount of credits you may take outside that college, but I did to a little research. if you look at this link and assume it's right and also put in a little effort, you can find a lot: Courses of Study 2008-2009: College of Arts and Sciences
that says you must have 100 A&S courses of the 120 courses to graduate. compared to CALS that is not a lot you can take outside the college.

what else...
I think Cornell is really pretty. it's a nice environment to walk around in. they keep their buildings warm even in the winter. the bus service (TCAT) is very nice for getting around campus and also going into Ithaca. the food is and there are usually not gigantic lines.

Thanks for the link, faustarp, it was really helpful. I really love the liberal arts so I don't think I would take too many classes outside of CAS, but it's good knowing that my options are open. :)

And yeah, I've never actually visited Cornell but I'm hoping to do so one day soon. The campus looks gorgeous.

glad it helped you. it definitely takes a little bit to figure out how to get what you want out of a college website, and when you're applying to a bunch of different ones you can't bother learning them inside and out!

(by the way, I meant to say the food was good/tasty! kinda skipped over the adjective part of that sentence...)
