Cornell v. Northwestern

"There is no reason for me to make that up."
you're looking for leverage against the kid that is transfering to Cornell from NU. I believe you, but i'm still highly suspect why you mention the 3 contract colleges in your arguments. Usually that animosity is reserved for rejects, hence my assumption.

"I have nothing against Cornell."
eh, I disagree with this based on your posts in this thread, but whatever.

NUGrad doesn't have anything against Cornell; his/her sister does. The sister had so much against Cornell, in fact, that she stayed there for 4 years even though she supposedly hated it.

Hopefully, his second screenname makes some better arguments.

I'd go with Northwestern, but apparently Cornell has good food.

i go to cornell, but I am from evanston with a lot of friends who go to Northwestern. if you are worried that ithaca is isolated, it sort of is (i'm not gonna lie). But the diversity and opportunities that the campus has to offer makes you forget about being in the middle of nowhere. And it is really beautiful here, more so than at northwestern. Ithaca, especially Collegetown has much more of a feel of a college town (sorry I can't be more descriptive) than evanston does. I can't really comment specifically on your programs, but all of my professors thus far have been extremely accessible. Also, my friends at NU complain about the quarter system, not only the pace of the work and constant testing, but also how it messes up your calendar (starting late and ending late).
anyway good luck w/ your decision

Couldn't disagree more on every level with BlueDevilBBall's prior post (?rant) re: NU. You may want to review some of this Guaranteed Transfer's previous posts before attaching any credibility to his comments on this thread. See below his post of 4/17/2007 at 04:27.

i go to northwestern, and am hopefully transferring to cornell next year. people think of NU as a journalism school, but its science department is one of the most rigorous in the country. premed students here are notorious for taking organic chemistry at harvard or mit or yale over the summer because it's so hard here, but the school caught on and now only NU's chemistry is accepted if you're a science major. it's a challenging department with tons of research opportunities and genuine academic greatness- the students are brilliant, the professors are famous. as a student here, trust me the education here is rewarding, brutal but rewarding.

Not to mention that the kellogg business school is ranked 2nd or 3rd every year (to wharton, obviously), and the engineering department has produced some of the most touted engineers in the nation. the theatre program is the best, and mathematics, my major, has more course offerings this year than mit.

other than that, not only are you a short trip from chicago (~25 min, 2 dollar train ride) from the heart of chicago, evanston is gorgeous itself and the school is on a beach! i don't know what i'd do if i didn't have south beach or the lakefill to go to at nights with friends, some of the best times ive had.

all this being said, im trying to transfer to cornell simply because im a ny state resident and it would cost me half of the money for an academically equal institution.

hope this helps

I absolutely agree. I remember reading his post. He is completely full of it.

For his information, if he wants to be challenged, i don't think CALS is the way to go.

SAT range: 1230-1430

I wish him the best of luck (it will probably a bit easier actually)

haha, you make such dumb remarks NU grad, it's getting to be rather entertaining. Please, keep posting!

I guess by your logic, Harvard should be hard as all hell, and nevermind the 50% A's given out at Brown - it's just too cover up the sheer difficulty of the school as students have a tendency to struggle horribly.

You remind me of a 30 year old bball/simbajune, with the exception of slightly better typing/spelling skills.

I have been reading this thread with a great degree of amusement. In fact, two sets of equally brilliant students fighting over such things as SAT score, weather..!

Both are great schools. If one has to choose, between these two, the parameters will not be the quality of the students or the professors. For ex. BlueDevilB Ball has compelling reasons to transfer, though I don't see why he should try to say something, in this thread, which is different from his earlier post!

The OP is familiar with Northwestern and plans to visit Cornell this week. I hope that will provide the information needed to make a decision between the two schools. Much of the previous "discussion" won't tip the balance in favor of one school or the other.
