Cornell versus Northwestern

Help!
My daughter has been accepted to both Cornell and Northwestern and is having a great deal of trouble making a choice.
She would like to major in Biomedical engineering, but continue on to Med school.
What do you think!!!

I want to do the same thing your daughter wants to do, but I'm only a junior looking to apply to Cornell next year for early decision.

Anyway, there are a couple of things to consider. Cornell University does not offer a biomedical engineering major; it offers a biomedical engineering minor for biological engineering students. Most students who do not want to pursue a traditional premed degree at Cornell go for the biological engineering degree to fill premed requirements. Out of those students, majority of them also do the biomedical engineering minor. On the other hand, Northwestern offers a true biomedical engineering major, but the end result at both universities is the same.

Is distance an issue? If you live on the east coast, then Ithaca is most likely alot closer than Chicago. In the end, your daughter should check out both schools and pick which one she likes best. You can not go based on poor academics because both of those schools are academically sound. However, there is one thing to consider. Cornell is the best Ivy for engineering.

HI Tux08902
and thanks for your reply.
The grandparents both went to Cornell
and I went to Northwestern PhD. Music
We live in Southern California so it is a real toss up as far as
the travel issue.
What to do? What to do?

She can achieve her career goals at either school. Has she visited both schools, and if so, what does your daughter think about them? Is she inclined to attend one over the other?
