Cornell vs Boston Univ vs Villanova

My daughter was accepted to Boston Univ and Villanova business schools. She was also accepted to Cornell's Hotel school. She is really struggling with her decision because she feels she should not give up an opportunity to attend Cornell BUT the business programs at Boston U and Villanova are more suited to her interests.

Any thoughts from the CC community to help her with her decision would be welcome!

Go to Cornell! Try to transfer into the business program at Cornell after she gets there. The business program is in the Ag school but it is a general business program. Are you a NY State resident?

We’re not NY state residents.

We have heard that it is really difficult to transfer out of the hotel school… we learned this after she applied. I think most of our college search was focused more on school fit in terms of campus-life, etc… and we did not spend enough time understanding the programs offered and thinking about her career path.

while I agree that Cornell AEM is great for NYS residents, also check out the requirements. Since AEM is in the Ag school, Bio and Chem are required. And since both courses can be full of premeds…

But transferring among Cornell’s colleges is not THAT difficult – they just tell you that so you won’t apply to the “easier” one with hopes of a backdoor way into a more competitive one like CAS.

It’s not as if you’re forced to go into hospitality after going to the hotel school. It’s pretty damn good at general business education. Probably better than BU and Villanova, from what I’ve seen.

Good point, Ray192… I think when making her decision to apply to the Cornell Hotel School, she thought it looked like a good general business education but now she is worrying that it is too specialized.
