Besides the weather/location, what is the difference? What (in your opinion) is more appealing about one than the other?

(sorry if anyone already posted any answers to this thread, i didn't get to read them before it was erased)

dukes a better school, period

I can't help but agree with dayobball6. He makes such a convincing argument!

OP: What is your intended field of study?

duke is a lot better academically (with great medical school if you are interested in going med.). Also, duke sports...

lol why are people allowing these morons to make these rediculous statements like this...im sure duke is better in some things as its a great school but these people are just wrong...somebody defend them with real evidence im too tired to deal

yea duke is REALLY good in some majors but not in all. For instance Cornell rocks for engineering while duke stinks.

I am so bummed the thread got erased man. I made a long post about what was going to happen and everyone flaming and stuff. What I essentially said is that most duke guys know close to nothing about cornell life and most cornell kids know close to nothing about duke life. There are a select few who actually can comment on the situation from both perspectives, like, say, an ithaca resident who goes to duke or a duke -> cornell transfer. I for example am useful on the Princeton vs. Cornell debate for this, as a Princeton resident at Cornell.Other than that, you're really not going to get anything from a thread like this except for a lot of senseless bragging and bashing.

I recommend asking about specific aspects on each schools board and then combining the answers yourself. That way you can get knowledgeable people answering instead of rabble rousers trashing the other school. Pick aspects that are important to you: perhaps research opportunity, party scene, workload, proximity to metropolitan areas, etc.

Also, focus on your program of study. What are you intent on studying. It's ridiculous to make a blanket statement that one school is just BETTER than the other when they both offer such bredth. Both schools are great is what it comes down to. Each has programs that are better than the other. What it comes down to is, once again, that they're both incredible schools and that essentially it's personal preference. good luck man!

Now that you brought it up Sparty, why did all those threads get erased? Does anyone know?

yea there was like a problem with the website..it's on the main page

ahh... "CC Time Warp"... interesting.....

some threads get shut down for mad flaming, but I guess this was different. My point stands though. The OP gains nothing from senseless bashing of either school, and if the rest of the posters on the cornell board have any class they won't sit around saying "duke sucks cornell is better." However, since most of us really don't know much about duke life, it's difficult to be productive unless the OP asks pointed questions.

Statistically, Duke is better academically and has great law/business placement, though Cornell isn't far behind...Cornell has a really good engineering program. It also has other unique programs like in hotel management that Duke doesn't have. In terms of social factors, Ithaca versus Durham and hockey versus basketball comparisons should come to mind. One is in the Northeast/New England region, whereas the other is more Southern (even though you get lots of types of people at both).

Duke sucks in every way possible. JJ Reddick is satan. Their men's basketball team is coached by an aborted fetus. Thank you all for your time.

hey thanks for all the responses so far. sparticus, i kinda thought a flame war might start but my unquenchable optimism demanded that i post regardless. i know that both schools are phenomenal academically, so my major is irrelevant since i'm trying to get a sense of other things, like campus life, etc. thanks everybody for posting.

Your major is not irrelevant because each school has its own academic strengths.

right, but i want to hear about cornell vs. duke rather than major x at cornell vs. major x at duke. i know that they are both very strong in my major, so i'm looking at the other stuff.

Cornell and Duke are on par with each other academically. I recommend that you visit both schools, and see which one fits you best. I also recommend that you read "The Fiske Guide to Colleges" by Edward B. Fiske. His description of both schools may be of interest to you.

you have to list other stuff for people to comment on it. If we were to discuss every aspect of cornell it would take 1000 posts.

Runner, Duke and Cornell are equally good academically and reputationally. However, they are very different in most other ways, so you really should find out as much as possible about the two schools before deciding. One thing to keep in mind, Cornell is significantly better than Duke in Engineering and the hard sciences (Chemistry and Physics). But in all other subjects, I'd say Cornell and Duke are equal.

Alexandre, are there any major recruiters at Duke in Investment Banking? I know Cornell AEM is known to have alot of recruiters visit.
