Cornell vs Emory

First off I just want to say that I'm posting this in this forum because there are many more people here than in the Emory forum.

I'm trying to decide which to ED, these are my top two choices so far, but I want to know I picked the right one so that I can look back with no regrets. I intend to be a pre-med math major at whichever I attend. Any advice would be appreciated.

I’ll be the guy here to say Emory esp for pre-med. I currently go to Emory and have friends in Cornell. I can really only speak for Emory but there are many research opportunities here in ATL. With Ithaca… i don’t really know. But Cornell has the upper-hand on prestige up north. If your looking to bulk up a grad school resume w/ research though, i say come here. This is the Cornell forum so i’m expecting opposite responses.

Both are excellent schools. You could do well pre-med with either. Cornell is generally considered to have the higher reputation nationwide (with the possible exception of the South).

I suspect that Atlanta and Ithaca would have very different undergraduate experiences.

So, basically, you have to make a choice and hope it’s right. Good luck.

Go Big Red!!

Thanks for the quick responses, I actually think that both would be great for pre-med so I’m not to worried about that. The only concern I have is about doing research at Cornell, I hear it’s really hard to do research there which is really important to med schools. What my primary concern though right now it how much fun I’ll have. I hear Cornell is great and the thing that would make it less enjoyable for me would be the cold weather. Emory is where more of my concerns are, I really love it and the warm climate but I hear so many bad things about the social life and the food.

Also I just wanted to say that Tufts is also an option for me, so if anyone thinks Tufts would be a good option, tell me.

Cornell will give you an advantage if you want to go to prestigious NE med schools like Harvard, Yale, Hopkins, etc. Everywhere else, Cornell and Emory will be about even. And it’s not very hard to find research at Cornell.

Cornell is a research institution. You should have as many opportunities to research there as anywhere else.

What about it terms of social life/ quality of life? Can you rank Tufts, Emory, and Cornell?

As a matter of fact, I’m debating between Cornell and Emory ED right now, as well! (For a different subject, though) In any case, both are great schools obviously and I’ve visited both so I can comment on the life of the two schools. If you like big cities, with lots of restaurants, theaters, clubs, etc. Emory is right outside Atlanta, which happens to be a very nice city. If you’re more into frats/ on-campus activities Cornell is probably better for you. Also, the weather is infinitely better at Emory (unless you like cold and snowy weather). Finally, in terms of the student body, I found the kids at Cornell to be a bit more uptight, and anxious. The workload is probably more intense at Cornell, perhaps contributing to this perceived atmosphere. In terms of diversity, this is abundant at both schools. Hope I helped!
