Hi everyone, I am a Nigerian currently trying to transfer to Cornell to study Economics. I graduated from like the best school in West Africa, with a GPA of 3.0 (which may not be too good for Cornell I guess), but I had a lot of extra curriculars, and I currently have a GPA of 4.5 out 0f 5.0 which is a first class, but heres the really messed up part, I had a 1640 in the SATs. Do I stand a chance of transferring to read Economics?

If you’re transferring to Cornell, have really good college GPA and recommendations from professors. Admissions will look at your high school grades and testing, but not as much weight is put on them as they are for first-year applications. Good luck!

You have a decent chance since you are a minority and they love that. It will definitely be a tough transition, so just mentally prepare yourself for the rigorous academics. Also, if you can only get a 1640 on the SATs maybe that is an indication that it is not the right school for you.

I’m Nigerian as well and I got in ED freshman with a 2130. I have a friend who got rejected with a 2170, I have another friend with a 2400 but he didn’t apply to cornell. Although SAT is only part of the application, those scores are too low, so improve on em. Nigerians do pretty well on the SAT to put you at enough disadvantage.

You don’t have to send your SAT as a transfer if you apply to CALS or ILR.
