I've been admitted to both engineering schools and I plan on visiting both of them. I'm looking to study mechanical engineering and possibly dual-degree or minor in business. I already got preferred admission to the Ross school of business at Michigan. I'm not really sure if there's even the option to dual degree at Cornell. Fit wise, I think I'd fit in at both places although they are quite different. Any advise or thoughts on both schools would be great. Thanks.

Cornell does have the prestige that comes with it.

Cornell = Ivy. Its fun to tell people you’re from an Ivy league. It’s a confidence boost. You can do a lot in life with confidence boosts.

I have degrees from both Cornell and Michigan. Academically, they are both powerhouses, particularly in Business, Engineering and the traditional disciplines. Preferred admit into Ross is definitely a big deal and should be seriously considered. You can receive a great education at either school and when time comes for you to look for a job or apply to graduate school, degrees from either university will open doors. I would go with your gut on this one.

If you want to work on the East Coast or the West Coast, Cornell is the clear choice. In the Midwest though, whatever advantage Cornell may have reputation-wise is probably balanced out by Michigan’s strong name recognition in the region so its a wash there. Internationally, Cornell is slightly more prestigious as well.
