I am stuck between Cornell, Northwestern(McCormick) and Tufts for biological engineering. Where should I go keeping factors like difficulty of courseload, social life, future job oppurtunities in mind?

Can anyone leave something...a short sentence will be nuf.

They are all so different...

Tufts is the lowest rank, but that could be attributed to the size of its program, and you may prefer a smaller size. Cornell and Northwestern are both considered pretty generally strong in engineering.

Their locations are also quite different...Cornell is in the middle of nowhere, whereas Tufts and Northwestern are within a stone's throw of major American cities. Cornell, on the other hand, is the largest school, with over 13,000 undergrads (compared to 5,000 at Tufts and 8,000 at NW).

It's really pointless to make a recommendation. You need to decide where you think you'd be the happiest, and go there. I wouldn't get too caught up in the rankings and all that, either - all three are great schools, and there will likely be little impact on your life whether you graduate from Tufts or Cornell or Northwestern.

my mom got her eng phd at northwestern and it's an excellent school for engineering i would recommed it! i dont know much about the rest, but cornell and nw are on the same level i think academically.. both very difficult schools.. but with hard work it is possible to be successful.

do you think TUFTS deserves its really low rank in engineering schools? I really like tufts but then i found out about the rank and it was a major turn off.

Take this with a grain of salt, but....

Someone very close to meet graduated from Cornell Engineering and is doing a masters at Tufts (taking both undergrad and grad classes since she switched sub-disciplines). According to her, the Tufts classes are much less rigorous and educational than the engineering classes she had at Cornell.

This could be only true of the classes she has taken, but the story hasn't changed and she is on number 8.

I don't know anything about Northwestern.

Waleed,

If you really like Tufts and got accepted, go there...do NOT let some stupid rankings determine where you will spend your next 4 years.
