Cornell vs. Rutgers Honors vs. Merit Scholarship

I am a senior in high school and am now in the process of deciding where to go to school next year. Ultimately, I want to go to law school and am unsure which undergraduate school will best assist me in this pursuit. I have been accepted into Cornell, as well as Rutgers and Drew University. Both Drew and Rutgers have offered me a large amount of merit money to attend, as well as a spot in their honors programs. But Cornell is an Ivy League University, so its a hard call. Will Cornell really open up doors for me and help me to get into a better law school (by this I mean a top tier school), or does undergraduate not really matter and I should instead save my money for law school?

-Thanks!

I want to know also! (if you have any info to add about engineering, I’m mostly the same)

I had to decide between Rutgers Honors and Cornell as well and chose Cornell. Honestly, I feel like being at a school like Cornell will not only help after, but also foster a better learning environment for me.

Is there anything you would have liked better about Rutgers besides being cheaper?

I had the same problem last year. I mean, it’s not like Cornell didn’t give me ANY money, but Rutgers gave me a lot more. I personally decided that Cornell was worth the extra money, and came here instead. I’m studying engineering, and honestly, for engineering, it’s much, much better to come to Cornell. I mean, we’re number 7 or 8. The opportunities plentiful, and the program is amazing and respected. Not to mention that at Cornell, you have more networking opportunities.

I’m not sure about law though. I honestly don’t know enough about the program at either school.

Hope I was helpful, and good luck!

I was in the same position this year, but i ended up deciding to go to cornell with no financial aid. I honestly think that it’ll be worth it more in the long run, unless you’re interested in pharmacy. Cornell is gorgeous and honestly, Rutgers is just way too big and there are too many people.

I had to make this exact same decision 12 years ago. I chose Rutgers because my family and I didn’t want to take out the massive loans we’d need in order for me to go to Cornell. I’ve never applied to law school, but I did apply to Ph.D. programs in economics and got into some well-known places, including Stanford, Northwestern, and UPenn. All the same, if you and your family can come up with a way to finance Cornell I’d go there. It will open more doors.
