My son is a Canadian Applicant (with potential to come to the States), please help us on comparing the two options,

Cornell: CAS, potential major math & Eco, $0 award. (put deposit already )
Toronto: guaranteed business school, some tuition award (plus the tuition is much lower)

It's hard for my son to make decision. From financial point of view, U Toronto definitely wins. But academic wise, how about the two schools? We know that UT has grade deflation and huge class size problems, what about Cornell? What percent of students in a class can get A? How big is the class size?

We need some help in deciding in less than 2 weeks and now we are more confused than ever. Any advise is appreciated.

I think from an academic standpoint they are very comparable. UT is considered a top-notch research university with incredible resources in a fantastic city to boot. It also has one of the best academic libraries in the world (as does Cornell, but most students don't know about UT). I think both UT and Mcgill are very comparable to Cornell. The only option to consider is where he will be working upon graduation. Had he been in a more academic field (the sciences with grad school aspirations, it wouldn't matter). But having a business degree from a Canadien school versus an Ivy may actually matter if he wants to work in the US.

Unfortunately, name recognition seems all too important in fields like business...too bad, UT is a great school
