Cornell vs UMich - Business

I am currently a freshman at the Ross School of Business at UMich with a guaranteed transfer option to the Dyson School at Cornell for fall 2019. However, I cannot decide whether I should transfer or not. I hope to go into Finance or IB and I do not know whether one is “better” for me than the other. I like Ross but I don’t have a strong network right now and I am not a big fan of the sports craze and greek life culture at Michigan. Thus, I don’t really see a reason to stay at Michigan (since I don’t have much of a personal connection to the school or the students) unless Ross>Dyson. Cost would be slightly cheaper at Cornell btw. My biggest concern though is whichever one of these programs would set me up for the best success in the future.

Another poster has opened one or two threads on the same exact topic so you may want to check out those threads.

@Publisher Unfortunately, those two threads were started by me and I was banned (for some reason) so I was hoping that this thread would be one that I could have a discussion on without any issues. I’m simply just trying to get advice.

IMO, stay at UMi. Dyson is going through a lot of internal changes, and that - at any university- rarely improves the student experience in the immediate term. On the other hand, Ross is currently in a very strong cycle, and you only have these years.

You aren’t tied into the people or the school b/c you have been expecting to leave- commit to spending the next 3.5 years where you are and you will build that network. Time to bloom where you are planted

As for the greek/sport thing, at both UMi & Cornell those aspects are strongest in 1st year, when everybody is new & finding their feet. There is plenty of non-greek / non-sport life at both places.

@ai2490: You have two outstanding choices. There is no clear cut answer. If you feel more comfortable at Cornell Dyson, and it costs less, then consider transferring.

Michigan Ross & Cornell Dyson are equals with respect to academics, internships & job placement.

Publisher is quite right, if you are intent on working in Wall Street. But for those looking to work in Consulting, Fortune 500 companies, or in Silicon Valley, Ross is in fact a better option than Dyson.

You seem to want us to tell you to go to Cornell from this and your other posts so… GO TO CORNELL.

How’s that?

They are both excellent schools. But since it seems you haven’t connected with the people and you don’t enjoy the culture of UM so I’d go to Dyson (especially at the cheaper price).
