Cornell vs. WUSTL

Not in academics or prestige or the like.

From observations during my short time at this... community, I've concluded that Cornell and WUSTL students (and applicants and acceptees) are the most embattled. So- which group gets the most crap about it? Which reacts more? Who has more reason? Is the Reject Ivy title worse than the ranking gaming reputation?

:P

What nonsense. I think we have better things to do on this board than to create a version of reality TV.

My apologies. By all means, don’t let this distract you from debating whether Stanford or Yale is more prestigious.

Hmm. A very interesting post, ChasingRabbits.

I may be biased, but I love WashU like all my peers:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/878100-school-has-all-washington-university-st-louis-3.html

(and senior year high school I had to choose between Cornell and WashU)

Both are great, ‘top-ranked’ universities. I just get a feeling that WashU students are happier. Any Cornell students out there want to give a shout-out?

WUSTL does offer generous academic merit scholarships, which are always a compelling reason to choose one school over another.

I know four peeps who chose WUSTL, ND, JHU, Duke over Cornell–for financial aid, “fit,” special programs, prestige. Not unreasonable.

Come on, fogcity, there are worse thread topics than this one, alhtough perhaps a better one would be a more open-ended one concerning which schools endure the most crap thrown at them on CollegeConfidential, and why it is unfair for each. In other words, I don’t think Cornell or WU are alone here. Berkeley gets plenty of abuse for daring to compete with the top schools even though it’s a big [sneer] state school and has average SATs that don’t come close to comparing to other tip-top schools. Penn gets crap for being too vocational; Notre Dame gets crap for daring to be religious; Northwestern gets crap for having ugly buildings and being in the Midwest; USC gets crap for needing a morality overhaul top to bottom; Dartmouth gets crap for being a bunch of alcoholic frat boys; Brown gets crap for being a clearinghouse for celebrity offspring who would throw a tantrum if they had to take a course in a subject they didn’t like…etc…

^ isn’t it sad…

I’d vote WUSTL as the better school
It is reputed to have happier students
It’s also a richer school. for example NIH/ federal research funding-wise it gets more

Cornell>WashU

…its a fact, please stop your bickering

It’s not a fact, PABank. It’s called ‘an opinion.’

While both are great schools, I think students at WashU are less stressed.
WashU is also better ranked in academia.

Cornell over WUSTL.

Cornell by far over WUSTL.

Let’s turn to Naviance:

Cornell: avg. GPA of acceptance 3.79, avg. SAT of acceptance 2175
WashU: avg. GPA of acceptance 3.77, avg. SAT of acceptance 2226

Both schools have had over 300 apps from my school.

Conclusion: WashU > Cornell, but only slightly.

In terms of international prestige, Cornell >> WUSTL, though WUSTL is still a wonderful school

^^ Says the Cornell matriculate

School pride is wonderful. I think WUSTL >> Cornell.

nah my opinion is based on rankings from other countries such as the Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings and ARWU ranking. Cornell also does better than WUSTL in various rankings in the US

Don’t get me wrong, WUSTL is awesome, but it is quite lacking in international prestige…

um waitatshu, well the OP said ‘not in terms of prestige’
so looking at overall undergraduate quality-- academics and student life-- I’m going to vote WUSTL on this one.
Cornell is pretty awesome too, but for some reason I hear kids there are really stressed out/ under a lot of pressure.

well
Academics: Cornell > WUSTL except for premed?

"but for some reason I hear kids there are really stressed out/ under a lot of pressure. " actually that depends on your major

^ though I wouldn’t know cuz I’m not there yet~
