Does anyone know the difference between the Cornell Card, the BRB, and the CityBucks? Also, the dining form wants to know how much to put down for Citybucks, but is it worth it to get CityBucks? And if so, for how much?

Cornell Card - kinda like a credit card but it doesn't build credit. I believe it goes on your bursar bill but I'm not positive about that. Can be used only on Cornell's campus. I don't have one and I'm fine.

BRBs - Big Red Bucks, can be used for food most places on campus, if you sign up for a meal plan you automatically get 500 (300 if you get that all you can eat meal plan, which I would not reccomend as you don't even have time to go to the dining hall more than twice a day). Most people don't run out; in fact, everyone's trying to use up their BRBs now cause you lose them at the end of the year.

CityBucks - a debit-type of plan that can be used at some places in Ithaca, like CTB, etc. Some people like them so that they don't have to carry cash. I don't have them and again, I was fine. I believe you can add to them later so if you have any doubts, don't get it now.

Ah that totally helped, thanks. I probably won't get a Cornell Card then, I don't see the point. I might get a City Bucks though, depending on where I can spend it. Does BRB cover Collegetown restaurants? Or would the City Bucks cover that?

Just so you know, signing up for all these doesn't mean you'll get a new card; all the information is just on your ID card. I don't think CityBucks is worth it since you aren't saving any money and it's better to have a credit card (for me anyway). Cornellcard is nice since you can buy things without a credit card on campus, but there's a $10 startup fee.

From North Campus, it's about a 15-20 minute walk to CTB (Collegetown Bagels) which is on the northern edge of Collegetown. With all the detours, a car won't save that much time anyway. You could always take the bus with the free bus pass you'll be getting...

With the city bucks you can sign up online I believe and set it up so it notifies you when your balance is low Then all you need is a credit card to add to it. I would start out with a lower amount to see if you use it or not and then just add to it. You can also track your other accounts online BRB etc. It shows where you went and how much you spent. For freshman it showed the laundry account as well.

Many people use city bucks for ordering food to be deleivered, but also note that many delivery places accept credit cards. Also note that any money added to BRBs or CityBucks is nonrefundable, so anything not spent by the end of the semester is lost.

(another side note...I ran out of all my BRBs today, so it's not like everyone has an excess - just keep an eye on them throughout the semester)

Yeah, BRBs deplete themselves at different rates for different people. I have about 110 left, same as one friend of mine; another has about 180; two more have over 300. Some have none.

They're invaluable though...don't know where I'd be without them.
