Im applying ED to Cornell this fall, but i need to have a back up, just in case, you know. So i have this list of schools that ive been working on since February and ive finally narrowed it down to around 7 private schools. I narrowed down trying to figure out schools similar to Cornell as a package, not just one aspect. Here is what I compiled:
-NYU
-Boston U
-JHU
-University of Rochester
-Brandeis U
-Lehigh U
-Syracuse U

By the way, some of you may not agree with me on NYU or Boston because its an urbanite type school while Cornell obviously isnt, but as i said, the PACKAGE, not just one aspect. Boston U and NYU offer very similar opportunities to that of Cornell.

Now here is my question. What schools did you, Class of 2009 and all other Cornellians, apply to if you applied RD and to those who got in ED, what schools were you considering?

Im trying to see if im on the right track. Thanks again. -Fellow CCer

I took Colgate and Union off my list. Union seemed very LAC type, very small, very isolated, and very low status in terms of prestige and actual knowledge of the college to the general public. Plus, i just cant imagine myself there. Colgate seemed way too isolated for me as well. Though Colgate and Cornell have that rivalry, Colgate is still horribly unknown in the public. It is also extremely conservative in comparison to quite leftist Cornell.

S first had to decide between ED Cornell or SCEA Stanford...hard choice for him, but ultimately he decided to apply SCEA Stanford and was rejected. He then applied RD to Cornell, Northwestern, Georgetown & U VA...accepted to all four. He's going to Cornell. Seems to me (but what does a parent know?) that Northwestern is most similar (despite college town vs big city and bigger vs smaller)...not sure chances at one improve over chances at another, tho...in general, they all seem equally selective/lottery-like...
