Coronat Scholarship Invitation = Likely Letter?

would you say the getting invited to apply for the coronat scholarship would be the same thing as a likely letter?

I would say so, congrats. I have seen this at other schools and we have all determined this is the school’s way of keeping you interested until mid March since so many people have heard from many of their selections already.

Thanks! Yeah it’s definitely sparked my interest again which had decreased over time until this.

Yes, yes I do…well done!

It seems to be a new cherry-picking tactic to hold the interest of these (you) top candidates. It keeps their name in the mental mix while dangling the ever-so-enticing spector of merit money!!! Is it a coincidence that one school seems to do this to keep competitive and the same year…others follow? hmmmmmmm

yeah I wonder how many people opt out of applying for it.

pfips123, I was just wondering when you received your letter and if you applied ED or RD? Thanks!

Could someone (especially those who have been awarded the scholarship) shed some more light about this scholarship ?
I’ve read some threads about the Coronat and they’ve been mentioning some statistics but i don’t know how reliable they are.
Thanks.

^^Coronat is like winning Syracuse lotto…it’s for arts and sci students only and is the highest scholarship one can be offered there for merit…stats change every year depending on applicant pool so stats are not necessarily reliable…

Look it up on www.syr.edu…lots of info on the website

^^Yeah, the lotto seems like a pretty accurate description. I was invited about a week ago. Very honored, to say the least. I had already read what the SU website had to say about the scholarship, and it had a lot of info but nothing really about actual numbers. It’s ok though.

I applied regular decision and it actually came as a bit of a surprise when i got it. Not because my application is bad, I just never really considered it. I received it last monday, 14th I believe. maybe a little sooner. They sent an email before they sent a letter.

I definitely agree with euchmaster, it is an amazing honor. Although SU is not necessarily my top choice I would definitely not be able to turn this down if I received it.

You can check the the CAS website for information about the past recipients. I think it’s going to depend mostly on the quality of your essays more than the grades because they already choose what they think are the best applicants.

So the invitation came with your acceptance letter?

I have not been officially accepted yet. I don’t think any acceptances have come out yet. I received an email and a letter that said-

"I am writing to offer you an extraordinary opportunity. Although the Office of Admissions will not make formal admissions decisions until mid-March, I invite you to apply now for a Coronat Scholarship. The Coronat Scholarship is the most prestigious award bestowed by Syracuse University, and you are being encouraged to apply because of your superb application to The College of Arts and Sciences.

Coronat Scholars are a very select group of unusually talented and promising students. Some are bold academic risk-takers; others show remarkable intellectual originality; and many have made substantial contributions to their communities. These qualities embody the Syracuse University ideal of undergraduate learning, and we expect such students to make a powerful difference in the intellectual life of The College"

and then is says what the scholarship entails and stuff.

I applied for dual-enrollment which is kind of lucky because I was considering just doing the college of engineering.

So did you get the scholarship???
