My son just got mail today from Admissions and Financial Aid announcing this new scholarship program, offering full tuition, to "outstanding young men and women who have potential to be future leaders in science, engineering, mathematics, and technology fields, and who are from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented at HMC."

Other than the fact that the application is due in a week, did this go to everyone who applied? Or was it only supposed to go to URMs? If so, they made a mistake: my son would not qualify as a URM.

Any insight? Did anyone else get this? (I assume this does not automatically imply that he has been accepted...)

I got one as well and I'm not a URM. On the instructions part of it, it says that if you're a URM you have a better chance of being chosen for the scholarship, but any applicant is eligible to apply. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with acceptance though.

Same here - son got this as his first post-application communique from HMC. The scholarship is brand new, and all applicants are eligible, but each one must write an essay on why they deserve the award.

I got one the day after I said I didn't. Considering how I'm a white male who isn't extraordinary academic-wise for Mudd, I'm pretty sure everyone got the opportunity to apply.
