<p>^Our class elects a graduation speaker by vote. But it has no impact on val/sal. Just the class comes up with the person they feel is best-equipped to deliver a memorable speech. Or they pick the popular kids haha</p>
<p>And students don’t vote, the teachers/staff vote. Which makes it even more corrupt. Someone can just suck up to the principal/counselors etc. and win their approval.</p>
<p>Dude that’s terrible! I feel for you, at least take solace in your epic CC name. What colleges have you been targeting or applied ED to? (you are a senior right?)</p>

<p>…do you really deserve to be Valedictorian?</p>
<p>^ Hehehe. </p>
<p>We don’t have a val. Anyone with a GPA 4.0+ is ranked number 1. We have a speech contest to decide who gets to give the speech.</p>

<p>There’s no such thing as “deserving” valedictorian aside from GPA. The valedictorian is simply the student with the highest GPA.</p>
<p>Although I don’t really see the big deal about being valedictorian as long as your transcript says #1 on it.</p>
<p>Our school doesn’t rank now. We don’t even name valedictorians anymore (which is a bit sad).</p>
<p>We have rank, but not valedictorian and salutatorian. </p>
<p>Instead of the Val/Sal speaking, each of the top 5 speak on a different subject.</p>
<p>No rankings here. 21 kids so it’s a tad bit unfair to rank.</p>
<p>We always have our real vals speak, but we also always have more than one val. The most we ever had was 7; this year there are 5. All of them have the same weighted GPA, have taken the same number of APs, etc. The salutatorian gets to sit on stage, like the vals, but doesn’t get to give a speech.</p>

<p>There are two people in my school in the mix for Valedictorian. One applied ed to morehouse (i know, i’m confused as well, but he explained to me why and gave some pretty decent reasons) and the other hasn’t chosen. People always make so much noise/buzz about being valedictorian in my school (and everywhere else) and i just see it as pointless. If i get into a school ranked anywhere from 1-40, and you get into a school ranked 50-100, then i think i’m in pretty better shape for the future. Whether you are Val,Sal,Pal,Tal or Gal.</p>
