COSMOS 2013 Waiting

i live in LA county (san fernando valley) so im pretty far from Santa Cruz…idk if i’m driving or flying

if anyone got into UCSD cluster 5 let me know! that was my cluster last year (’:

@dragonslayerx: Yeah I think, because I checked off a list in the participation forms. It sucks that you can’t bring bikes because you’re going to have to walk everyday XD

My daughter got accepted to Stanford’s EPGY program to study Bioscience and Biotechnology and COSMOS at UCSD to study Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. Now she’s having a tough time choosing which one to go to. Can anyone recommend which one is better and in what way? Any help is appreciated!

One thing to consider is that if you are a California resident, COSMOS will be about $800 cheaper.

I went to COSMOS at UCD last year, and absolutely loved it!

@piggydad: Don’t quote me on this…however, almost everywhere else I have checked people say COSMOS was a better experience EPGY is not as prestigious (which is ironic as its at Stanford). Both are supposed to be great programs nonetheless. I’m going to COSMOS UCSD this summer

Thank you for your input.

congrats to everyone who got in!!

@BetaPuma: (really late I know) if you mean cluster 5 video game design, definitely go to COSMOS. it’s an unbelievable experience that i’m pretty sure will beat going to the local junior college haha. you learn a ton too! as long as you don’t hate to code i’m sure it’ll be fun for you c:

again if anyone has any questions about UCSC feel free to ask and i’ll try my best to answer!

eta;
@piggydad: I have a friend who went to EPGY and also had a great time, so i’m sure it’s also a pretty good program! but yeah, I’ve heard that COSMOS is more prestigious, and it’s considerably cheaper and one week longer than EPGY (I think? unless the different courses at EPGY have different lengths, not too sure about that). Although admittedly I believe that the food at Stanford is better haha (at least, for UCSC)

@Mikaaa I had a question about the Number Theory Cluster 1 at UCSC. What’s the experience like? I need to convince my dad that I have a legitimate reason to go. Sadly, he doesn’t see the advantage of the experience!

@Mikaaa. Thank you.

When is all the registration material due by? As in, what is the date by which you have to confirm you’re going?

@maroonafternoon: In their acceptance email to you, it should have said that all participant forms (including participant confirmation) must be postmarked by April 26, 2013, which has already passed. I am not sure if this is for all campuses but this is what UC Davis told me.

Anyways, this is my first time posting in this thread. I was admitted to COSMOS 2013 at UC Davis in Cluster 4: Introduction to Astrophysics!

(oops late response again sorry)
@cookiestuf not sure if it’s too late (if forms were already due…) but you probably want to be pretty interested in the cluster matter; i saw some of the stuff they were doing and wasn’t sure i’d be able to handle being in that cluster haha. more lectures that what my cluster had too (but I think that applied to all clusters except mine…). professors in pretty much every cluster were amazing so i’m sure they’ll find ways to make it enjoyable! you learn a lot too. but honestly, the class stuff is only half of the program, and the experience of living on a college campus, meeting new (amazing!) people, doing activities, going to the boardwalk, and so much more makes it undeniably worth it c:

My daughter applied to UCI, cluster 2 ( Astrophysics) for 2013. She is on a waiting list. Any idea what are the chances of getting in from the waiting list? Anyone had luck in doing that this year for this or any other cluster? Is there a deadline by when they will inform you or can it be as late as the start of the program.
If anyone got in this cluster this year, can you please share your stats so that it will give us an idea where she could have fallen short?

Hi everyone!
Pretty late post, but I will be attending UCI Cluster 4: Life on the Edge: Biodiversity and Ecosystems of Coastal California. Anyone else in this cluster/attending UCI? Is there a 2013 Facebook group?

Everyone going to UC Davis should join this Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/435371553218857/
