Anyone applying? To what campus and what cluster(s)? :D

I am ucsd!!

Cluster 8 - Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine
Cluster 3 - Living Oceans and Global Climate Change
Cluster 7 - Bioengineering/Mechanical Engineering: The Amazing Red Blood Cell
In that order
I’m so excited/nervous!! Haha

im nervous too!!! mind sharing your stats? o: im afraid i won’t get in…

Sure if you wouldn’t mind sharing yours haha. I feel the same!!
4.33 GPA, speech and debate president, academic league captain, AP psychology and pre calc. I’ve gotten awards for the John Hopkins talent search, and I’m a BEWiSE participant (science for girls). And I’m a sophomore btw :)

What campus and cluster are you trying for?

im a junior! im applying to ucsd. whoa they updated the site. uhh im applying to clusters 1 &2 Computers in Everyday Life and Engineering Design & Control of Kinetic Sculptures.
my UW is a 3.9 and W is 4.19 but most likely going way up this semester (thank goodness)

key club cnh district graphics deparment and divisional bulletin editor, jets(junior engineering technical society) teams competition captain and 2nd place in state. captain of robotics and 3rd place regional. math and science club secretary. physics club vice president. code club secretary…breast cancer awareness club-designed shirts and sold for profits for national breast cancer society… though i don’t know if some of these are “academic”. haha

i applied last year and didn’t get in but maybe better luck this time. :)

That’s crazy. You seem really involved, why would they NOT accept you? It kinda sucks that a lot of my ecs are a bit disarrayed. They probably don’t care much about varsity tennis, theater and volunteering I’m guessing. Well, volunteering maybe.
This is my first time applying, what’s the process like?

Nahhhh those extra-curriculars you listed are really good! It’s okay though I didn’t have that many ECs last year either. I would suggest to highlight your STEM strengths (especially in the topic of the cluster you’d like to pursue)

I think what reject me was my essays (and the fact that I applied for financial aid, making the application process a lot more tedious). My essays sucked. I think I may have lost my voice and not a lot of personality shone. Make sure to make your essays really really good because they are supposedly the most important part to your application.

Hmm so basically you go through an online process, fill out gpa, class rank (no sat required), your ec’s, address, etc, and you have to write an essay. There are three topics. I think one was why you want to go to COSMOS, another was Describe a challenge you have faced and how you overcame it. I don’t quite remember the last prompt though. You have to write one short response for each cluster you choose as well. After that you need to get an unofficial transcript and two teacher recommendations, most preferably from your current math and science teachers.

I’m really hoping I get accepted this year Good luck to the both of us and ask whatever you want here; I will be glad to answer questions :)

Good luck to you!!! I’m really excited XD
I’m going to the informational meeting on the 21st, so of they mention anything of interest, I’ll let you know :)

ok thanks!! :D

I only recently found out about COSMOS, and I really want to go! But I have absolutely nothing going for me… . I am currently a Junior and I’m planning to apply to UCI COSMOS. I have a 4.0 GPA UW but that’s going to go down because I screwed up this semester…and I have absolutely no extracurricular activities.(I’m on the tennis team, but a very insignificant position). But I’m applying anyways because there is no harm in applying! haha

It looks very interesting and I’m thinking about applying. I’m a sophomore w/ like a 4.0 GPA give or take a few decimals, lol. I’ll find out for real this Friday when we get our report cards. I am in Key Club, MUN, and I took a community college class for biology and got the highest grade :). I’m on the basketball team and…that’s pretty much it, lol. I don’t have much going for me but we’ll see!

Cooool. Where are you applying?

I’m applying to the UCD campus. Cluster 8, Chemistry. I’m really nervous I won’t get in because I have no idea what they accept. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and only a 4.1 weighted. My Pre-Cal H and Chemistry H classes are weighted. My STAR test scores are kind of disappointing (advanced, but only in the mid 400’s) but I’m in a lot of EC’s. I participate in Junior Statesmen of America, journalism, science club, marching band, Academic Decathlon, and National Honor Society. I was second chair clarinet in the county honor band this year. I was a varsity athlete on the tennis team this year. In middle school, I won a silver medal for a chemistry event in a regional Science Olympiad competition and contributed to a district Math Olympiad competition 1st place victory… although I don’t know if middle school awards mean anything haha.

Does anyone have any idea how competitive Cluster 8 for UCD is? I know biology clusters are extremely competitive but what about chemistry? Do you guys think I have a chance?

Oops I meant high 400’s for STAR testing… not that it makes a difference or improves it that much haha

Thank goodness for this post! I’m worried out of my mind about this. I’m a junior an I’m applying to UCD. I recently learned about this as well so I didn’t have a chance to apply last year… I wish I had! Will someone see my stats and chance me?

This yr: gpa: 4.0 UW 4.5 weighted
CSF, NHS, science alliance (I basically mentor 5th graders for their science fair. 2 yrs of swimming, volunteer work.

Applying for Cluster 2 - Physics in Electro-optics & Nuclear Technology
I haven’t thought about my other two choices yet. My physics teacher is willing to write me a good rec letter.

I severely lack EC’s and that gets me really nervous. I heard cluster 2 isn’t all that popular. Is that true?

I would say those are very sufficient EC’s! Cluster 2 isn’t really all that popular (which I don’t understand because you get to go to NEW MEXICO!). I don’t think you’ll have very much trouble getting in. But yeah, I heard last year there was a kid who had a 3.7 UW and a 3.9 W (or something along the lines of that) and got into Cluster 2. You have more than a good chance! I guess you could just make your essay stand out and you’ll be fine.

wow thank you so much!
also would it be inappropriate to ask my AP U.S. history teacher to write me the 2nd recommendation letter? She knows me and my work ethic better than my math teacher but I’m hesitant to ask her because it’s history and not math or science.

I went to the meeting. This year it’s mandatory to have a science and math teacher. :)

oh thanks! by chance do you know if it has to be your CURRENT math and science teacher? or can it be from last year?

Tell us about the meeting please!!
