@Cornbread1999 Do you play in SJYS, by any chance? My friend’s in that one. I know people in CYS and SFYS as well, although not as well as the girl in SJYS.

I’m terrible at writing things about myself; hopefully my teacher recs will even that out (they’re going to be really, really good–except they’ll be from math teachers, so I don’t know how they’ll discuss how “her enthusiasm for science” and whatnot; I haven’t really had a science teacher whom I’d get a rec from since eighth grade).

not SJYS

I have decided to ask my bio teacher and either my math teacher this year or my chem teacher for a teacher rec; I heard that they are one of the better ones.

and it’s fine; I might have a B+ in English this semester; I despise A Tale of Two Cities

at least it’s not a math or science class; I have A’s and A+'s in those classes

I’m asking my math teacher from last year (who I visit every day) and my math teacher from this year; both know me really well.

Yeah, that sounds good.

@Cornbread1999 Cluster 6 was very nice, we did labs everyday and didn’t have any homework, unlike the other clusters. We created biodiesel from canola oil and then we purified it in lab teams of two. About two weeks into the program we began to break off and do our group projects during lab time, group projects included growing algae, building a rancimat, and making a chemical called solketal (I think that’s how its spelled). In the lectures (from 9-12 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), we learned about such things as the transesterification process and alternative fuels from two great professors, Dr.Williams and Dr. Pomeroy. If you have any more questions I’d be happy to answer them!

That sounds fun

Merry Christmas! Did anyone start working on their essays?

Just a general question about COSMOS: You are supposed to apply to two clusters, but you will only be placed in one if you are accepted, right?

To both @Kelvin82 and @photogeek8: Yep.

(not that I’m any good at writing essays about myself; I’m horrible at it, actually)

I worked through Christmas on my essay and came up with quite possibly the most cliche answer to the personal statement ever…

or like, the statement of interest

@topaz1116, I liked how you killed two birds with one stone.

how much will my lack of math and science extracurriculars hurt me in admissions?

Oh and I also participate in CML, but I’m not sure that counts as an extracurricular

I’d like the answer to @Cornbread1999’s question as well. Unless one participates in robotics (which I don’t really want to do) or, by some miracle, gets onto the Science Bowl team (I tried; I also couldn’t do Science Olympiad because it conflicted with another EC), there aren’t many science-related ECs one can participate in at my school.

I’ve got one paragraph of my statement of interest written, but I’m stuck (this is why I cannot write anything longer than a page unless it’s for school, in which case there’s a specific format). I hate writer’s block. It is the most annoying thing on this planet.

at least your statement of interest probably isn’t as cliche as mine

anyboddddyyyyyyyyyyyyy???
