Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Low grade level, low priority

My DS got accepted to UCSC, cluster 1: Number theory

@sometimesadog me too!

I’m really confused.

I completed everything on my application and my dad said he mailed the confirmation page. I swear I checked it a few days after the deadline and it said the confirmation page was receives (although I might just be forcing that thought). I mailed the confirmation page 2-3 days prior the deadline also.

Now I have no e-mail and it says my Application wasn’t even accepted…

Decision: Wait Listed
Campus: UCSD
Cluster: Tissue Engineering (8) (wait listed for this one but 2nd choice was computers in everyday life (1))
GPA UW: 4.0 (at a super competitive high school)
Grade Level: 11
Honors/AP classes: Honors Precalculus (A+) AP Biology (A) AP Chemistry (A-) AP Statistics (A+) Honors English (A)
Extracurriculars: Ballet, viola at a senior orchestra, tutoring for pay at an afterschool, volunteer at hospital, did science fair last year (but this is pretty worthless tbh)
General Essay: 8 maybe? Honestly no idea
Cluster Essay: 6 it was pretty basic
teacher Rec #1: probably a 9-10
Teacher rec #2: 2-3 because she actually did it about 40 minutes before it was due and supposedly used bullet points and wrote in in probably 10 minutes at most
Why you think you were waitlisted: one bad rec letter, really basic ecs, essay not especially unique

Has anyone received e-mails from UCI? My status still says Applied

If I was waitlisted for my first choice cluster, does that mean I still have a chance with my second choice cluster?

@ccly222 Unfortunately, no. If you were waitlisted for your first choice cluster, you are stuck there. If someone decides to drop out of that cluster, then you will be let in. You cannot switch from cluster to cluster.

@ls99027 UCI sent out accepted and waitlisted emails on the 15th and 16th, if you haven’t received one yet, then it probably means you’ve been rejected. Sorry :frowning:

Note to those who were waitlisted: there is hope! I, for one, will probably not attend COSMOS because I got into my first choice program. Others (especially juniors, who have plenty of opportunities) may have gotten into theirs. People will get off the waitlist–just hope you’re one of them.

@michelle426 Oh darn :frowning: Guess I’ll just have to hope I get in! Thanks

My sister applied a few years ago and was waitlist then accepted so I have great hopes

General Essay (1-10 Scale): 7
Cluster Essay (1-10 Scale): 8
Teacher Rec #1 (1-10 Scale): 5
Teacher Rec #2 (1-10 Scale): 9
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Mediocre essays, poor rec letter (one of my teachers finished rec letter in 5 minutes on last day), poor extracurriculars–no awards won

@ccly222 Thanks :’( I’ll try again next year. I figured it wouldn’t happen anyway since I haven’t done math olympiad or anything like that. The only weird thing is that my status isn’t updated and I have seen people on this thread who have been notified about their rejection as well

FYI: this is my second time applying and I was rejected by ucsc last year

Also, my cluster may have been the 18/600 one.

Good job to everyone who was accepted into the program, and I look forward to getting to know all of you who will be at UCSD! Good luck to everyone else in finding something else to do in the summer, I know you’ll make the most of it

@ccly222 I think I may have accidentally sent you my reply to michelle on the thread! oops!
