COSMOS 2019

I was rejected from clusters 6 and 8. Not surprised, since I was out of state. However, I think it would be helpful to recieve feedback. Does anyone have any advice for what to write in an email asking for feedback?

My D was accepted to UCSC cluster 3 (2nd choice) but did not receive any financial Aid. When I mailed our FA application I included a letter saying my H lost his job in Dec. As it turns out, after three months of unemployment, my H started a new job this past week. However, he had to accept something that pays less and when you factor 3 months of no salary, our 2019 annual gross will be significantly less. We absolutely cannot afford the full cost and Iā€™m wondering if itā€™s worth appealing. Has anyone ever successfully appealed? IF so, can you please tell me how you went about it. Also, is the program really worth $3700? My D is excited and it sounds like a great opportunity but considering the financial strain when faced with the full cost, itā€™s something we have to consider.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For anyone accepted to the UCI Data science cluster please list your stats

Did anyone else get into Intro to Astrophysics Cluster 4 at UC Davis?

I got into UCSC Cluster 2: Nanochemistry and Nanotechnology. Anyone else get into that cluster?

Iā€™ll post my stats if anyone wants them.

@hsclassof2021 they havenā€™t released the acceptance rates in the past (as far as I know), but people at COSMOS can ask their professors, and theyā€™ll likely know.

@astudentlikeu @gratefulmama Iā€™m very sorry youā€™re in this situation! I would definitely try to appeal the financial aid decision. Iā€™m surprised that it is unaffordable. From what I experienced and people I talked to last year, they generally do a good job of making sure that they help people who really need it. If you make 100k or more, I doubt they will give you anything. This program changed my life, so if you can make it work, and your child truly does enjoy the cluster, I would definitely encourage you to do it.

@ichen21 can you post stats?

@GokNar123 It sounds like you have good stats, so you were probably rejected due to you being a freshman (priority is normally given to upperclassmen). Apply again next year!!

@iambear

Grade: 11

GPA: 3.94 U/W

(classes might affect decisions so Iā€™ll include APs here)
Sophomore APs: European History, Calc AB
Junior APs: English Language, US Hist., Calc BC, Comp Sci Principles, Chemistry, Physics 2

ECs:
Chemistry Olympiad - I studied hard last year and was able to rank within the top 150 in the US.
Science Olympiad - Club VP then President for past three years, earned 4 medals in chemistry/forensics events.

Essays: I kind of rushed my essay in a little over 2 hours, and didnā€™t proofread it. I thought my essay would hurt my chances of getting admitted because it wasnā€™t ā€œpersonalā€ enough. But the language and flow of the writing, I believe, was good in general.

Overall:
I think what led to my acceptance was my experience in the cluster I applied to, my classes, and my extracurriculars. I had done a science fair project about nanotechnology before and mentioned it in my cluster choices, so this couldā€™ve also lead to my success.

I got into UCSC cluster 5 and my stats were
Grade: 11

GPA: 3.94 UW

EC: student govt, red cross secretary, girls who code, digital art work (ngl I really didnā€™t have many STEM ecā€™s but i still connected all of them in my essays so)

Essays: These were pretty strong for me and Iā€™m sure this is what got me in

Overall: I took an average amount of STEM classes, maintained my GPA, and I made sure to really personalize my essays with my experiences and what i hoped to gain from my cluster. ***Also, I know the professors in each cluster read the applications themeselves so I suggest researching them just to give yourself an idea of who exactly you will be writing to.

For anyone accepted into UCSD Biomedical cluster, could anyone post their stats and ecā€™s? thanks

Did anyone else get into UCI Cluster 7?

@6565656 I did

anyone get into UCI cluster 2 or 6? if so if you donā€™t mind could you share your stats?

Accepted! Iā€™m still in shock! UCSD Cluster 6: Biodiesel from renewable sources
Anyone else? Also, I got rejected last year, so for those who got rejected, just know that thereā€™s gonna be another opportunity to either get accepted later or find something even better :slight_smile:

@astronomy21 congratulations!! i got into UC Davis C4 as well!! iā€™m so excited

is there a way to ask again for financial aid?

@andjustwhen I applied for cluster 1 and 6 i think and got in for cluster 1 which was my first choice. From this forum, it seems like not a lot of people applied for cluster 1 which kind of puzzles me because biology clusters are typically very popular.

what are the chances of getting off the waitlist at UCI?

@TheRose21 omg wow i got accepted in UCSD Cluster 6 too!! Iā€™m a sophomore so I was kind of surprised though.
