COSMOS 2019

@taiwanbest

After mid April, usually most spots that were unfilled will be filled by the waitlist people. However, there are some very rare cases where students are given a chance to gain a spot in June. One of the people I had COSMOS with in UC Davis got his acceptance email in mid June after being placed on the waitlist.

She put the two ECs which she spent the most time in the boxes, and wrote about the rest in her essays. I also think if your child can find a connection to what he did and the cluster heā€™s applying that would really help. Good luck next year!

Also for those on waitlist, April 12 is the first wave of accepted students declining the program because thatā€™s the date the deposit for Cosmos is due, students declining probably will forego the deposit. The second wave I suspect will be smaller and probably will happen around May 24 when the entire tuition is due. I know several students that got into the program through waitlist last year so hang in there and good luck!

Has anyone tried to appeal their financial aid decision? I sent an email on Saturday and havenā€™t received a response one way or another.

@momincal Could you tell me how many of your waitlisted friends got in last year? Also, does it vary by campus? I was waitlisted at UCI and my friend got waitlisted at UCSD and got a survey but I didnā€™t.

Anybody know if thereā€™s a way to figure out which of the two clusters you applied to that you are waitlisted from? Or is it both

@WhyamIhere123 Thatā€™s a pretty good question. Does it say anything specific in your waitlist email? Or in the application portal?

@taiwanbest i was waitlisted at UCSD too and got a survey, so maybe it was just UCSD that sent it outā€¦i wonder how many ppl got waitlisted per cluster :confused: i honestly expected flat-out rejection bc my grades and stem ecs arenā€™t the best and started planning for other guaranteed programs even before cosmos released decisions, but now that iā€™m on the waitlist i really hope to get off T-T (i heard they sometimes get back really late though)

@taiwanbest

One wait listed at UCSC and one at UCSD, both got in. I donā€™t know if campus or cluster have anything to do with it, I would think it depends on what students are declining that year and hence opening up the space for wait listed students.

Am I the only one unable to do the housing survey for UCSD? It wonā€™t let me click the box that says ā€œare you planning on attending COSMOS at ucsd this summer?ā€ and Iā€™m starting to panick

when asking for feedback did you guys ask specific questions about your application? or did you just ask them to give general feedback?

@YJS1029 do you have another form of communication besides CC (Discord, Twitter, other social media, etc.)? It would awesome if we could get acquainted beforehand. DM me on here if needed.

If anyone is up to make a UCSC COSMOS group chat, Discord is probably ideal for me, but other social media also works. DM me if needed. If there is some sort of function on CC, we can use that too.

I just realized, I need 15 posts to DM someone. Iā€™ll just post my Discord then, if you want to contact me, add me and DM me where you came from.

which program is more prestigious for college apps: cosmos, jhu ei, or ucsc sip?

Depends on your major; similar topics are ideal and will look better (major topic similar to the camp topics, etc.) @abcschool

@abcschool

Ranking:
COSMOS ā†’ helps with UC admissions a lot
SIP ā†’ good research
JHU EI ā†’ great courses, but you donā€™t gain a lot out of it

the kind lady at UCSD who always answers my emails said that some years they only go through a few people on the waitlist, while other years they go through the entire waitlist. so for people who are waitlisted, donā€™t lose hope!

@treehugger14 Do you know what years did they accept most people from the waitlist, and what will happen this year (all or only a few)?

@taiwanbest iā€™m not sure about previous years. you could try emailing and ask if they can give you info from previous years. as far as this year goes, the number of people accepted from the waitlist depends entirely on how many admitted students decline their offer to attend. so we wonā€™t know until at least the first deposit deadline (april 12th i believe)
