COSMOS 2020 Thread

Waitlisted are UCSD cluster 8 - what are my chances of getting in?

waitlisted at UCSC for clusters 3 (exploring animals in the ocean and on land) and 8 (marine mammals and oceanography). Anyone accepted and planning not to go?

Are the waitlists higher due to COVID-19??

i don’t know. i actually think the number of rejects and waitlists are similar year to year.

That’s what I was thinking but I’m not sure. I hope that’s the reason

accepted just now to ucsc cluster 2: nanochemistry and nanotechnology

I can provide stats and essay summaries to anyone who wants it

Accepted to UCSD cluster 11: autonomous vehicles.

Wish there was a discord server or something for cosmos decisions. Lmk if anyone wants to know stats.

accepted to UCSD cluster 6: biodiesel from renewable sources
congrats to everyone, regardless of whether you got in or not!!!

I got waitlisted at UCI and I’m kinda freaking out so if someone who got into uci’s cosmos is reading this and is thinking about not going, please please please let me take your spot i’ve worked so hard and honestly have no idea how i didn’t get in with my stats and extra curriculars. Also if anyone knows if there’s a good chance that you’ll still get accepted if you’ve been waitlisted, please let me know :frowning: thanks everyone <3

Rejected from UCD Cluster 1. Can anyone who got their admissions update back explain their application (even if you got rejected or waitlisted) , it would really be beneficial to me next year. Here’s a format that you guys can use and I’ll do mine below:

???: UC Davis
???: Cluster 1: Nanotechnology and Quantum Mechanics

???: 3.86 UW / 4.0 W
???: Freshman in Highschool
??? ??? : Rejected

??? ??? : 6 My first cluster essay was decent. However, I think it was more of a play on words rather than something that explained my passion towards the cluster. I wish the cap on word limit was smaller. I gave a short anecdote, but I don’t think it was very effective. Overall, I’m a strong writer and could make my essays flow.
??? ???: 8 I talked about an experience I had with my math camp and how it changed me through the many friends, challenges and teachings that I’ve met and encountered whilst attending. Although the topic may be bland, trust me when I say the essay was interesting and I had multiple friends read it, who had agreed with me. My goal was to display how important these camps are to me and how COSMOS can do the same through a series of personal experiences. I really thought this essay would get me in, and it’s probably the strongest part of my application.
???: 6 I’m apart of my school’s math club (small leadership position) and I also put that I was accepted into a rigorous math camp
??? ???: 5 I didn’t get to read these but one of the teachers I had asked to write me a recommendation was very very nice, but seemed a bit lazy. The other teacher I didn’t talk to very much and I’m not sure if she even likes me but I wanted to as her because she was a STEM teacher.

I don’t want to seem cocky but I’ve always been a strong writer and after hearing that COSMOS admissions mostly looks at essay, I thought that AT LEAST, I could have been waitlisted. Also I’m pretty sure that my cluster isn’t too competitive so it’s really a bust to get the rejection email. Congrats to those who got in and I would really appreciate it if you could fill this form (regardless of if you got rejected, waitlisted or accepted).

@khobbib what were your stats?

Does anyone know how good my odds at coming off the waitlist are? I applied for Cluster 2 at UCI

Here’s the blank format if you guys are interested (please fill this out regardless of your admission status:

@iLoveEspressoHi I am guessing the main reason was cause Freshmen have a much more difficult time getting in. They want to give priority to Sophomores and Juniors. Also your GPA is a lot more significant if you’re a junior or senior as you’ve taken more advance classes.

waitlist ucsd cluster 11,3

Got into UCSC Cluster 10: Semiconductor Materials and Devices Engineering. UW GPA 3.94. My ECs had a connect to this cluster. Spent quality time on the essays. Guess that worked. I am from Northern California.

???: UCI
???: 2

Idk what I did wrong

What do you guys think are the chances of COSMOS still being held in spite of current Corona Virus situation? My bet is that it’s going to be called off, but those who are accepted can definitely still say that they were accepted for college admissions. Congrats again. Also, would priority be given to those who were accepted this year for next year admissions?

I know that there are probably going to be applicants next year looking at this 2020 COSMOS chain so I just want to put it on here that the admission process is a lot harder than it seems and every aspect: your ECs, your essays, cluster essays, teacher recs have to all be good. Don’t underestimate the importance of your teacher recs, some professors say its the second most important thing next to your cluster essays.
