Cost for Out-of-State for Business School

I've been trying to figure it out from the 2012-13 Tuition and Costs page on the website

tuition + room and board: $39,707
books/supplies/personal expenses/transportation: $6668
$100 per credit hour fee for most business school courses: would that be 15 credit hours?, so $3000 ?
That makes the total $49,375

does that seem correct? that's higher than I expected

Yes. I believe that is correct. The additional fee is new this year. Remember, though, not every credit every semester will be a business class. We’re OOS, too, and it is a lot steeper than our SUNY schools but we feel it’s a good investment.

good point about the credit hour fee, thanks
we’re going to Make It Miami next weekend, can’t wait to see the school!

Yes, that would be only for those actual business classes. My daughter, who is an Engineering Management major, has not taken more than two in any semester. Even straight business majors would not be taking all business classes in a semester. The cost has steadily risen, though, in the last few years. I think in the fall of 2010 the surcharge was no more than $25/$50 per credit hour for the business classes. Now it will be $100 this fall. That can become expensive for some students.

Those costs may be correct, but of all of the schools my D applied to, Miami was the most generous with merit aid. Very, very happy with her FA package.

DS1 graduated from MU last May…double major Finance/Accounting. I looked back at his student account. He paid the business course surcharge for 77 credits over 8 semesters. Of course, with the double major he took extra business classes. Still it gives you something to go on. Fortunately for us, for the first 3 years the fee was $25/credit before increasing to $50/credit his senior year. $100 surcharge…ouch!

Thank you, that’s helpful!
I think financially Miami is not going to work for us. D got only $1000 in merit money and has better FA packages at other schools - approx. $15,000/yr. difference. Too bad. We were at last weekend’s Make It Miami program and were so impressed with the school. We both had that moment of “this is the one!” So glad we got to experience the school - what a great place!
