Cost of Attendance In- state change??

Hello all, just logged into D’s ISIS financial Aid and noticed the Cost of Attendance changed from $20,590 to $19,220. Does anyone have this change as well? I thought the cost of attendance was a fixed estimated cost?

I just checked and that’s what we have ($19,220). Last year it was $19,180.

Do you have FL pre-paid? It might be that since we are exempt from the tuition differential fee since we started FL pre-paid before 2007. It had indicated $20,590 which is what is posted on their Financial Aid web site but that would probably take into account the tuition differential fee.

Yeppers…we do have FL pre-paid.

I am asking a friend of my D’s who does not have Pre-paid and will see what her COA is but I think that might be what it is. The differential might be the difference. I found out FL Pre-paid actually pays up to the cost of a Hume double!

I dont have a pre paid plan and my COA is $20,590

Yes, I’m sure the differential is the difference. Since we don’t have to pay it (based on when we purchased our Fl pre-paid plan), it’s not included in our COA.

BTW: the differential had to have been the worse idea,EVER…

My son has FL pre-paid, but his account still shows the 20,590. I wonder if this is because he should be eligible for the FIS, so he won’t have to use his pre-paid account?? Yours might update @saismom when all the scholarship stuff gets in there. Although I wonder which figure they will give to the state for the FIS?

So I just got off the phone with Krista Scott who is the FIS person in financial aid. She told us they finally had my D’s name on record for FIS. Here is what I think will happen: We did give UF our FL pre paid numbers so the “new” cost of attendance does reflect no tuition differential. The Bursars office told me that they would “bill” FL pre-paid first for whatever plan we have- (4 year tuition,4 year local fees) the FIS will still be disbursed and can be used for Meal plan, books, etc. A the end of the term, the remaining $ get direct deposited into the student’s account ( outside financial institution) @Mobie101 - did you report the FL prepaid on your student’s ISIS? Does it show up at all on your financial aid statement? Bursar’s told me they do not bill until the beginning of the Fall semester ( unless your kid goes to Summer B.) drop /add. Apparently they cross check the student’s social with the FL Pr paid list so technically you only really need to let housing know if you do have the dorm plan. @Gator88NE can you verify any of this??

I think we were required to disclose that we have FL prepaid when my son applied. It does not show up at all on his financial aid page, though. I’ll have to check on that. If they cross-reference social # it should be there.

I don’t understand why they would bill the prepaid plan if FIS is covering everything. Weird! I’ll just be glad when the dust settles around all of this and we know exactly what is going on! Of course, we will be wondering every year if FIS gets funded, but even if we get only one year’s worth of FIS, I will consider it an incredible blessing!!

Now, to figure out how to get my younger child to study up for the PSAT in October so we can have another Merit Finalist! LOL

@Saismom That’s how our pre-paid plan worked (4 year tuition, NO fees). First, it went toward paying for our tuition, since our plan does not cover fee’s the balance was paid by Bright Futures. After paying the fees (with Bright Futures), any additional funds left over from Bright Futures was direct deposited into our daughter’s bank account.

Thats it! Like @Mobie101 my youngest is going to be sending quality time this summer studying for the PSAT in October, we want in on this action!!

They will bill pre-paid first unless you tell them not to.You can cash it in for the amount you paid in ( bad idea) or you can save it for grad school ( but only pays at undergrad rate for up to 10 years deferred).
