Hello, everyone. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my thread. My family is neither poor nor particularly rich - we are firmly in the middle, and as such we do not qualify for need-based financial aid, yet don't have the cash on hand to splurge on college. In addition, I have a sibling who will be going through college at much the same time as myself. He's looking at highly selective, private universities, as I am.

I am very interested in Johns Hopkins University, yet when I showed my parents their website and pamphlets, they were utterly shocked at the price ($39,000 tuition - $52,000 total). Honestly, how do people pay for a school such as JHU? My mother contends that it isn't even possible that people are paying that much to attend a university.

Basically, short of graduating with tens of thousands of dollars in debt, please give me some idea as to how I would go about paying for a school such as JHU? I am willing to look at private scholarships, working part-time, and other options. Does JHU offer a work program for students?

Now, I realize that this just may not be in the cards, however, I'd like to keep all of my options open at this point. If I do decide that JHU is my first choice, I'd like to be able to attend.

Thank you so much.
