My dream job is to work as a costume designer on movies, but I have no idea what to do to get there! I am still in high school and when the time comes to apply, I don't know where I should apply to. Should I aim for a Fashion Design or Theatre Design/Production school? What schools have good programs? What should I be focused on to be a costume designer? If anyone can help me I'd GREATLY appreciate it!! Thanks (:

Cal Arts has a costume design program, both for BFA and MFA.

You should be able to find many good costume design programs in theatre departments that will prepare you fully for film, television and fashion work. Check them out. Look at, for instance, some (or all) of the following: Boston University, SUNY-Purchase, Carnegie-Mellon, North Carolina University for the Arts, Ithaca College, University of Evansville, CCM, Webster University, Virginia Tech, Cornish, Cal Arts and SMU. These are far from a complete list, but can get you started. Also, most of these truly focus on the undergraduate experience and you would be able to grow.

I hope this helps.
