I’m a rising high school senior, and Georgetown is my top choice for college. I got a 30 on my first ACT, and a 29 on my second, but my superscore doesn’t help me. I haven’t taken the SAT. My unweighted GPA is usually around a 3.93, but was a 4.0 the second semester of my junior year. My weighted is around a 4.5. My high school doesn’t offer AP or IB classes because it’s so small, but I take many honors classes. My class rank is 3/around 100. I’m involved in NHS, show choir, varsity cheerleading, dance, church youth group, teenage republicans, school musicals, scholastic challenge team, and have represented my high school at various leadership conferences. I want to major in political science and minor in journalism. I just started my EA application, and I’m already so nervous! If there’s any advice you have for me, please let me know! Also, if you think I should retake my ACT or take the SAT please let me know. I really want to go to this school!
Hello @zbot12 ! Your class rank and GPA are very strong and top 3% of your class is considered at or above average for GTown. Your course rigor is strong given that you will be evaluated in the context of your high school so you will not be disadvantaged by not taking AP classes. However, I strongly recommend you retake the ACT in September and if necessary, October, because a 30 is below average and is somewhat weak there. Take an SAT practice test too and see how you do - maybe you’ll have more success there. However, I would go forward with either the ACT or SAT because Georgetown does not allow score choice- they will require you to send all test scores so taking both tests concurrently in addition to the two ACTs you have already taken may show that you have taken too many tests/ reveal too many scores you would not want them to see. Your extracurriculars seem strong, not exceptional though - could you take on any leadership positions next year? Also, do you have Job experiences/ community service to put on your app? These experiences are helpful. Georgetown also requires 3 SAT II tests to be taken- have you taken any yet? If so, what did you get on them? Be assured that your GPA is very strong and with studying you can definitely improve your test scores. Good luck- GTown is amazing and I will be applying there too in the fall!
Thank you for responding! Most people in my town go to community colleges or other small colleges in my state, and the ACT is definitely more common here than the SAT, so I didn’t even know about the SAT II tests. I forgot to mention that I am secretary of NHS, a section leader in my show choir, a student teacher at my dance studio, have a part-time job, and go on mission trips every summer for community service. I’m hoping all of that helps me out! Do you have any suggestions for whether I should retake the ACT or take the SAT?
