I am currently a junior in high school and am starting to think about college. I will most likely graduate with a 3.83 gpa. I am taking the SAT in june and will hopefully do well. My goal is to get a good scholarship to ASU or NAU. I am currentley taking 1 AP class, AP US HISTORY and will be taking the test in about 3 months. Would it be possible to get a full ride scholarship to any 4 year school? I have very few extra curricular and don't really do any sports, so i understand that will bring down my chances. I am just wondering about whether or not I still have a chance.

Frankly, there aren’t many “full rides” unless the student is a National Merit Finalist or has very high test scores. ECs don’t usually mean much. These scholarships are often based mostly on very high test scores and a strong GPA.

If you play around on the ASU website, I think there is a scholarship calculator. I don’t think you can get a full ride there…I’m not even sure if they still give free rides to NMFs. As for NAU, I don’t know.

There are many, many, many kids with high GPAs…you need to have the high test scores as well to get large merit scholarships.

Study for the SAT and ACT (take both) and be open to more schools. There are some lower tier schools that might give you a free ride for high scores…but be aware that they might be mostly commuter schools.

How did you do on the PSAT?
