I took Chemistry Honors in 10th grade and I am currently taking AP Chemistry in 12th grade. I want to take the subject test in november, but am concerned because we will not have covered all the material by then. Is it possible to use books to self-study? If so, which ones do you recommend?
You covered all the material in 10th grade. AP Chem does not cover all the topics of the Subject Test. Regardless, 2 months is more than enough time to refresh your knowledge.
Buy both released practice tests and use one see where you are, and the other after studying some to see where you still need to improve
I have taken the SAT Chem twice, and both were significantly harder than the official practice tests. I ended up getting a 770, but only because that specific test had an amazing curve. I believe that success on this particular subject test requires completion of AP Chem. I’ve only done the first half of IB Chem, and so the SAT Chem was just damn hard
Thank you both! @skieurope @AroundHere
yeah that makes sense. Perhaps I’ll just prep individually alongside AP chem and hope to score higher than my initial test. Thanks! @lolgotrekt
Depends on what score you are aiming for. I am currently a junior, I took honor chemistry in sophomore year. I took sat chemistry on august. Spent 1 week cramming in the summer and got 720(not good enough for me). But I am sure if you spend more time it is possible. Honors chemistry does not cover some common knowledge on Sat chemistry, be careful, I say take as many practice tests as possible.
My kid took it at end of sophomore year honors chem with no extra prep and got a 730. I think that’s probably about as high as most will get after just one year and no extra prep. Her teacher told her a lot of kids are taking it after AP.
