Lawry is alright. Mind you that if your specs are “too good,” you could be rejected EA. I saw this way too often. My friend personally landed at UChicago from Lawry (with EA WL) so you get the idea.

I went to a top public school right next to Lawrencville Prep and from my experience, all the kids who enrolled to Lawrenceville from our district were not the “standouts.” In fact, they were the kids who were struggling because our high school was so competitive.

Yes, Lawrenceville Prep has a great reputation nationally. But if you look at the admission statistics for the top public schools in the Princeton Area, the top 35% of the public classes do just as well if not better at some high schools than Lawrenceville Prep kids.

In my opinion, the biggest advantage of a prep school is the great counseling and admissions advice that they give. A lot of public high schools have just as strong academic rigor reputations as prep schools.

At the high school level, counseling makes a huge, HUGE, difference.

^I don’t know which one you go to, but the best public high school in New Jersey has an average SAT of 1857.
Lawrenceville’s average SAT is 2095 (25th - 75th percentile 1960-2250, which is higher than Michigan’s btw)

But sure whatever you say. I am sure it’s so much more competitive at your typical grade inflated “top public” with a lower caliber student body that the non-standouts dodge to a school with a much higher caliber student body that curves to lower grades. Makes so much sense.

@SoccerWolf: the consensus at Lawrenceville is that we are the big dog in the mid-Atlantic region when it comes to college matriculation and the caliber of student body. No one–not even Hill (our so-called archrival) or Peddie, and certainly not any of the public schools–can match us in these fields. And since the caliber of the student body seems to correlate positively with academic rigor, I think it’s safe to deduce that our academics is the most rigorous in the region, rivaled only by the big dogs of NE like Hotchkiss, SPS, Choate, Deerfield, Groton, Andover,…

As bearcats pointed out, our SAT scores speak for our student body’s caliber.

Sorry, I’m only fulfilling my duty of defending Lawrenceville :D!

(It’s also interesting how everyone who is not familiar with boarding schools refers to us as Lawrenceville prep, whereas people in the BS sphere simply call us Lawrenceville. Do you say Choate Prep, Hotchkiss Prep, Exeter Prep, and Deerfield Prep as well?)

Converge, you will be just fine with those stats.

And people stop with Lawrencville “prep.” Just stop. LOL

You’ll be fine with those stats. Anyone know if there’s a site with the nation’s high school with the highest SAT scores?
