Hey, I have a week left for my SAT’s and I have not really prepared for the essay section. I was wondering if somebody could grade my essay and point out where I am weak (I know that it is in a lot of places ). Here is the essay:
Prompt: Is the world changing for the better?
Scientific growth recorded exponential growth after World War II. The scourge of war had led us to develop weapons of mass destruction, but this growth in power has been kept in control by human conscience. The world is, in fact changing for the better, a fact that is reflected in the examples of Oppenheimer;s struggle for a better world, the formation and success of the United Nations and the ongoing refugee crisis.
Oppenheimer led Project Manhattan, and gave the world the most terrifying weapon of mass destruction, humanity had ever witnessed. Oppenheimer was quick to realize the destructive potential of the nuclear bomb, and spearheaded efforts to hinder the unchecked proliferation of nuclear weapons. Oppenheimer clearly showcases how the world is changing for the better, a man goes against his own creation for the good of humanity. This magnanimity is proof of the world changing for the better.
The United Nations was formed after World War 2. It was the successor to the failed League of Nations, and a prime example of how our world is constantly changing for the better. The United Nations has completed ts primary objective of stopping another world war happening. Additionally, it is estimated that the UN has given basic education to 300 million students, and saved 100 million human lives since its inception. It showcases how the foundation of a failed organisation has changed for the better.
The ongoing refugee crisis, clearly shows that our world has indeed changed for the better. European countries are opening their borders to let million of people who are fleeing from war to find a peaceful life. The growing concern for all human life is clearly seen, as refugees regardless of religion, gender and age are granted asylum. It showcases how we have moved forward from a world of narrow mindedness to that of caring for all humans, and helping them whichever way we can.
The evidence provided clearly showcases how the world has clearly changed for the better. Our concern for the planet and our brethren has transcended narrow boundaries, and is indicative ongoing progress.
Thank You
