Unfortunately, you can’t use the UW and W GPA based on that scale and convert it to 4.0. You’d have to convert each individual grade to the 4.0 scale, take the average of each individual year, and then take the average of all four years together.
@IBscholar How do I go about converting each indivudal grade to the 4.0 scale? Thanks for the response!
You’ll need to figure out every grade in every class since freshman year, convert them to A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc. Then using those letters, determine the numerical equivalence on a 4.0 scale. Then, find the average of those numbers and that’ll be your unweighted GPA. Weighted will be a little more complicated depending on what level classes you take (honors, AP, etc). I can give you the conversions my school uses, although specifics may and do vary from high school to high school. Alternatively, you can direct message me and I can figure it out for you, I’ve calculated my own GPA countless times lol
It differs for each school; the most basic way of converting it to the 4.0 scale is assigning each grade based on the scale AP provides: http://www.collegeboard.com/html/academicTracker-howtoconvert.html
For weighted GPA, if it’s an honors class, add an extra 1.0 to that class before completing averages.
That comes out to about an A- average, I believe, which would come to maybe a high 3.7, from what I’ve seen. Maybe a low 3.8.
Thanks guys! And @cornellaspirant did you get that result for UW or W?
UW. Not sure about W. High 3.8 to low 3.9?
