Could someone please chance me? Cheers

What are my chances for WashU ED class of 2022? I would be grateful for any feedback, thank you.
Nationality - British
Ethnicity - Asian Indian
Income ~ 70k?
Intended degree - Physics

ACT - 34
SAT subject tests - Math II 800, Physics 800
Grades - Maths A, Further Maths A, Physics A, Chemistry A.
GPA - I used a conversion table and got around 3.8 to 4.

ECs:

  • 2 week research placement at a University in India, studying piezoelectricity and nanofibres
  • UK maths Olympiad from grades 6-11
  • UK physics Olympiad from grades 10-11
  • Cambridge Chemistry challenge grade 11
  • Play county badminton, have won regional tournaments. I train for 7 hours a week
  • Work as an assistant badminton coach, teach kids to play badminton.
  • Maths and Chemistry mentor for students lower down the school
  • Volunteer at a local Primary School as an assistant teacher, help struggling kids with their work.
  • School Prefect, duties include acting as a temporary librarian during free periods and doing tours and talks for prosperity parents and students visiting the school.
  • Duke of Edinburgh awards, basically doing a load of hikes spanning over multiple days.

I’ve got quite a few weaknesses, such as my ethnicity (ORM) and need for a substantial amount of financial aid :frowning: ECs are average, nothing brilliant, and teacher recommendations will also be average.

Thanks!

I think you’ll do just fine. Your ACT score is amazing, and your extra curriculars really aren’t bad. Definitely apply early if it’s your top choice.

The school isn’t a reach for you. What I’m more worried about is the school is more of a financial reach. With room and board, the tuition at WashU is around $67,000. Even if you get a partial scholarship (you aren’t eligible for financial aid), you would still have to pay a lot.

Thanks for the reply! I might not have been clear, but by WashU I meant WashU in st Louis. Would this still be viable option for me?

WashU has such a low acceptance rate that it’s one of those schools that’s a reach for everyone. That said, I think it is a viable option (you are within the typical accepted student ranges) and you should apply. However, regarding financial aid, I don’t believe they guarantee to meet need for international students. With that in mind, it may be a bad idea to apply ED.
