I've searched a few times and haven't turned up anything. I'm registering for my SAT right now and for the part where it says 'My Recipients', do you basically pick all the schools your applying too? If you don't pick a school and later on you want to send your score to that school is it possible? Should I pick 8 universities to send my score too?

I have a lot of qusetions.. could someone please clarify the whole process?

I've heard on here and elsewhere that it's unadvisable to specify any recipients when registering in case your scores are worse than expected. You can go back and send them later if you want (although you won't get the first 4 schools free or whatever), or retake it and send the official score report (which may include the old scores; I'm not sure).

Disclaimer: I'm a junior and have yet to take the SAT. Disregard me if someone else tells you to do so.

I'm assuming you're taking the SAT for the first time. First, here's how SAT reporting works - when you tell the College Board to send a score report to a college, they automatically send your last six SAT I scores and scores from your last six SAT II test dates (which basically means all your scores). You can't choose to hide certain scores. When you send your scores to a college, they'll keep them on file even if you don't have an active application. When you register to take the SAT, you can have CB send a score report to up to 4 colleges for free. You can request more reports either when you register or sometime later for $9.50.

Now to your question - if you're applying to top-25 universities, you're probably going to have take SAT II's in the future, so even if you send a score report to those universities now, you'll have to send another one later, so there's no advantage to sending a score report now. However, if you're applying to any universities that don't require SAT II's, you could send them a score report right now. If you score well enough on the SAT and decide not to take it again, then you're set for the non-SAT II-requiring univerities.

At this point, even if you're not sure where you'll be applying, look up the SAT/SAT II requirements for some universities that you're considering. I personally see no disadvantage to using your free score reports.

Well, I'm another one baffled by this score report thing. I seem to be up the creek just now.

As we all know, an official report sent to colleges includes scores from all the kind of SAT you have sat for ( SAT I & II ). In fact, I'm about to take the SAT II in Oct and send scores to 4 colleges free of charge, then I'll take the SAT I in Nov and have already ordered CB to send my Nov score to four colleges as Oct. Will this be a repetition ? I mean the Nov reports will include both Oct n Nov's scores, so does it mean my SAT II scores will be sent twice to the four listed colleges ? Because really, I want to make the best use of this "free of charge" thing, for 9.50 $ for one score report isn't a sum to be sneezed at ( at least in my family's case ). What must I do now ?

Pygmalion, yeah, the schools will receive your SAT II Scores in October and then both sets of scores in November. Since most schools require SAT scores, there's not much you can do to make use of the free October score reports, because any college you send those to will need a updated score report with your SAT I score.

Ok, thanks tanman. Still, I have another question ( beats me why this score report thing is so much perplexing to me and several people )

After I get my Nov score and want to send it to colleges I'm applying to ( which demand both SAT I&II scores ), all I need to do is just to order CB to send my Nov score, since the Nov report will include scores of both Oct n Nov. Is that the correct way to do ? Or I have to ask CB to send my Oct SAT II and then Nov SAT I scores to the colleges I'm aiming at, respectively ? (which will cost a hell lot of money)

I'm quite confused right now :(. Thanks a bunch :)

Yeah, the whole thing is confusing. If you tell CB to send score reports after your November test, they will inlude your October and November scores and that's all colleges will need. When you register for the November test, you can tell CB where to send the score reports - the first four will be free and then the rest will cost you. (If you've already registered, I think you can go and edit your registration). I wouldn't wait to request score reports until after you get your November scores, because if you request them when you register, colleges will get them faster, which is important especially if you are applying ED/EA.

Yeah, you have made things much less confusing. Thanks tanman once again :)
In fact, I registered for the Nov SAT a couple of days ago and have requested CB to send my scores to 4 colleges for free ( which schools I'm sure to apply ). Will my Nov score come in time for RD round if I ask CB to send it after I know it online( the test date is Nov 4th. So, scores may be available around 21 or 22/11), supposing schools' deadline is Jan 1st ?
Thanks a ton ;)
