Could Someone Please Tell Me My Realistic Chances of Getting Accepted to UMD?

I have gotten so many mixed responses for my chances of getting into UMD, everything from "you're in" to "there is no way" so I was hoping people in this thread would know better. I am Senior in High School. I really messed up my GPA in 10th grade (because of stupid decisions and some family issues) but I still want to go to a good University, so I have worked really high to bring my GPA up as much as possible.

Other/Reccomendations

I am white, from a middle class family.

I went to regular public school in Maryland (In one of the best Counties in the US)

I did about 120 hours of public service.

I know my teacher recommendations are going to be very good. One of them is from my AP Programming teacher (she went to UMD if that matters) and I know it is going to be amazing. I have talked to her about how I messed up in 10th Grade and she said she would make it really good. The other is from my AP World teacher and I was the top student in his class and he thinks very highly of me so it should also be good.

My counselor recommendation is also going to be pretty good because she has helped me out a lot and she knows how eager I am to get into UMD.

In my essays I explained my situation and talked about how much I have changed. I had it checked with multiple people. They are very good in my opinion.

Please give the realistic answer because I want to know the truth of my chances. If anyone of you could also give me any advice or somehow help me that would be amazing. Thanks.

Bumppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

I see no reason to think you won’t get in. If anything you’ve shown how well you can bounce back from adversity. Your SAT should assuage any doubts, and you’re in-state.

@jkeil911 The thing that really bothers me is my low GPA compared to other applicants. From what I know the average GPA of the students accepted is around a 3.7. Obviosly I have shown my academic abilities In the last few years but I still fear they will diregard my application when they see my GPA.

https://www.irpa.umd.edu/cds/CDS_2012-2013.xls

Go to section C, and then down to the percentages of students with GPA’s 3.25-3.75. It’s about 16%. With your tests scores and EC’s, you definitely have a shot!

OP, I’m thinking that 90% of the time the first thing the UMD AO does is look at either GPA or SAT/ACT. If it is high, AO relaxes and looks for contraindications. AO sees your contraindication but then satisfies him or herself by seeing the leap upward and everything else you have going for you. Is my thinking flawed?

As for Vctory’s dataset, let me suggest another that is dependent on weighted GPA. There your wtdGPA is average for enrolled freshmen.

[University of Maryland Admissions Information - CollegeData College Profile](<a href=“University of Maryland Acceptance Rate | CollegeData”>University of Maryland Acceptance Rate | CollegeData)

Enrolled GPAs are always lower than admitted GPAs. Still, your wtdGPA is in the ballpark, so with the leap upward and everything else I don’t think you have to worry very much.

Average GPA is a 4.07, you have a 4.00. Average SAT is a 1335 M+CR, you’re probably around 1400.

You should get in if you applied priority. UMD is not that selective, you seem to be worrying too much.

Looking through your posting history, I see you’ve made up a lot of hypothetical situations for getting into UMD. Hope it works out for you. I’d suggest you stop wasting time on an internet forum and figure out a solid plan if getting into College Park is your goal.

I think your chances look pretty good. Ec’s are definitely strong and SATs are good. Your Weighted GPA may be a little overinflated so if you want to compare, just use your unweighted. Instate status is also a boost.

I think u r in.

Please Chance me out
GPA- 3.90
TOEFL-100
SAT- 1070 (M+CR)
Everything is good except my SAT score. I am just concerned about my SAT score and I don’t think UMDCP will accept me with that score. Math-650 CR=450
(Recently I took ACT and got 24 but didn’t submit .)

by any chance are you in montgomery county public school?

tommybo, 650 and 450 are 1100. I take it you’re an international? how is the course rigor at your school? I’m not worried about the CR score and like the M and GPA.

@jkeil911 I am not an International Student, as per the UMCP rule if one’s native language is not English he/she need to take TOEFL, but UMCP will give importance to SAT/ACT scores. I took 3 AP’s and got 4, currently taking AP Stat, AP chem ( took a semester, now self studying) , Multivariable calculus.

okay, OP, I still like your chances.
