Could use some help sorting out the COE humanities/social sciences requirement :)

I'm transferring from a CCC to Berkeley as an EECS major Fall 2013.

Here's the humanities/social sciences stuff I've completed so far:

APs:
English Lang/Comp - 4
English Lit/Comp - 4
Government - 4
US History - 4

CC classes:
HIST 20 - History of California
PHIL M2 - Ethics
ENGL V01B - Critical Thinking & Composition

Berkeley requires 6 humanities/social sciences classes, 2 of which can be fulfilled by APs:
1. AP English - satisfies R&C-A and Entry Level Writing
2. ENGL V01B - satisfies R&C-B
3. AP US History - satisfies American History and American Institutions
4. HIST 20
5. PHIL M2
6. (need an American Cultures course)

2 of the 6 courses must be upper division. How can I find out if either HIST 20 or PHIL M2 can be considered upper division? On the degree worksheet they handed me at CalSO under the Humanities/Social Sciences section it lists both HIST 20 and PHIL M2 under "1st upper-divison" but they left "2nd upper-divison" blank. Does this mean only one of HIST 20 or PHIL M2 can be used to help satisfy the 2 course upper-divison requirement?

I also need a series. I'm a little confused on this. If only one of HIST 20 and PHIL M2 counts as upper-division then can I take an upper-division AC course in either the history or philosophy department at Berkeley and be done? If both HIST 20 and PHIL M2 qualify for upper division can I take a lower division AC course in either the history of philosophy department to satisfy the series?

Thanks... I hope some of this made sense lol

No community college course counts as an upper division course.

You need two upper division H/SS courses. They either need to be in the same department or at least one of them needs to be English, history, political science (assuming that they count AP government as such for this purpose – ask to be sure), or philosophy to make the “series” requirement with your completed AP credit or lower division courses (assuming that they articulate to accepted H/SS courses according to [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) ).

For American Cultures, check [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see if any of your community college courses count (history of California from at least one community college does count, but that is not necessarily the case for others). If not, then one of your two upper division H/SS courses can simultaneously fulfill the requirement if you choose a course that is listed as such.
