Quick Question Regarding AP Credit

I'm a recently admitted student for COE Fall 2011. In terms of AP Economics Macro/Micro and AP American Government, the College of Engineering handbook states that a respectable score on either of these tests will fulfill "One lower division Humanities/Social Science." I'm still a bit confused over the exact requirements for COE despite having skimmed over the requirements on the COE webpage. Can someone please explain clarify this "lower division Humanities/Social Science?"

Thanks!

So you start off needing 6 Humanities/Social Science classes from the list.
If you haven’t taken any AP English classes then 2 of them have to be R&C classes, usually something like R1A and R1B.
1 of them has to be an AC class, and there’s no way to skip out of this.
2 of them have to be upper division (100 or higher)
2 of them have to be in the same department, with at least one in upper div. For you, if you do an Econ or Poli Sci upper div it will satisfy this requirement since your AP counts for a lower div in that department.

If I got a 5 on AP Language and Composition, would it matter if I got a 5 on AP Literature? Or would that be useless because I was under the impression that I could only skip out on R1B.

I know for me personally they would only accept one of my two AP English scores.
