International student
Chinese National
Full IB in a top high school (which has good reputation among US colleges)
My elementary/middle school are in Chinese curriculum, middle school is also a top school.
No GPA provided, but with a predict score of 36/42 in IB diploma (GPA probably lower than this, and this is what i am worrying the most, hope to have a better grade this semester and get my overall grades equivalent or slightly higher than 36)
I am a science student with 3 6s predicted in Higher Level Maths/Physics/Chemistry
SATI 630/800/620
SATII M2 800 PH 770 CH 760
Toefl 98 (I quite worry about this too, but i would retake this, expecting a 105 or above)

AMC 12B 5% Distinguished (Also took part in AIME but didnt get a good grade)
I prefer LACs because i want to have a wider range or comprehensive study and hope to have a really good science program with top student-bodies and faculty and highly intellectual atmosphere.
Would definitely seek for a graduate school after graduated.
I would also apply to good public/private universities.
Engineering is one of my choices but i would highly prefer science program with very good humanity/social science supplementary.
EDI Colorado College
EA Purdue/UIUC
Would probably apply:
UCLA/UCSD/UCSB/USC/UMich/Georgia Tech/Carnegie Mellon/Reeds/Oberlin/Bates/Bucknell/Lafayette (actually i would like to add Rice/Carleton/Harvey Mudd/Harverford on my list, but i know my GPA is too poor, also the SAT)
My information is somewhat limited and i don’t know what is considered to be a ‘good school’ for the US students, so i hope you can select some schools for me, thanks.
Take a look at Grinnell if science is your passion. Around 13% of the students are international and they are generous with financial aid to int’l students. As an Asian, you are a URM there which gives you a bit of a boost. LACs (except Harvey Mudd) also tend to skew a bit female, so male applicants get another slight boost there.
Be aware, however, the most LAC (Grinnell, Bates, Reed, Oberlin, Carleton) do not offer engineering. They do have 3-2 programs, but this can get complicated with your financial aid. If you think you may want engineering, then you need to attend a school that definitely offers it.
You can get into a lot of schools with your stats. Your GPA is a bit low, but your SAT is good. Here’s some good schools with engineering, but I’m not sure how good they are with intl. aid:
-Allegheny College*
-Bates College
-Baylor University*
-Berry College*
-Biola University*
-Boston University
-Brown University
-Bucknell University
-Bradley University*
-Champlain College
-Clemson University
-Claremont McKenna
-Drexel University
-Emory University
-Florida State*
-Fordham University
-George Washington University*
-Harvey Mudd
-Hofstra University
-Howard University*
-John Hopkins University
-New York University
-Penn State*
-Swarthmore College
-Syracuse University*
-Temple University*
-Texas A&M*
-Tufts University
-Tulane University*
-University of Alabama* (You could get a full ride scholarship)
-UCLA*
-University of Miami*
-University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
-USC
-University of Virginia*
-Villanova University*
-Whittier College*
*You’re a bit above average, so you may get more aid.
You can chance yourself for any school by googling the Common Data Set + (Name of school) and scrolling down to Section C. The stats for the admitted students are presented there. Compare your stats to theirs to get a feel for your chances.
California UC’s give little to no financial aid to International Students. Expect to pay $55K/year to attend. USC and the Claremont colleges are private so these schools are worth pursuing. Rule of thumb, most state schools will give little financial aid for International students since these schools are supported by state tax payers, so the best aid goes to in-state applicants. Concentrate your efforts on LAC’s and private schools.
How do you guys think about reed??
Compared to other schools in academic and student body.
I personally have a good impression on it, but I don’t know exactly how it is.
