International student, want to major engineering, chance me and will chance back

Hi! Everybody. I am an International and I'm going to retake SAT1 this October.
My assumed score is:
Critical reading:750
Maths:800
Writing:740~680

Toefl(Best score):
Reading:30
Listening:30
Writing:29
Speaking:20
Best total score:105

SAT2
Maths2:800
Chemistry:800
Physics:800

I'm not sure about how GPA is calculated in my country. But I think it will be somewhere between 3.7~3.9(out of 4)

Top 5 out of 340 or so. (School in top 10 in China)

AP(calculusBC, PhysicsC:Mechanics,Physics C:Electricity and Magnetism, Chemistry Microeconomics, Statistics):All 5 except statistics(4)

EC: National Chemistry Contest(Second prize).
Twice the first prize of chemistry in my state
Once the first prize of maths in my state
Multiple Science lab work.
Went to Peking university summer chemitry camp (You know it is one of the best school in China)
plenty of voulunteer work. Found a club in the school doing this. Raised some money(500) in the school to the Gansu province.
Attended a foreign exchange program.
Attended as a voulunteer to a national summer camp

I REALLY,REALLY want to get to MIT, Stanford or Caltech.
But I have no idea which should I choose for ED.
Any advise is welcome!!!!
Match: Berkeley, Carnegie, Cornell. I can only think of these three.
Safety:Georgia Institute,

I'm also considering LAC but I'm not sure which one suits me.

International students not allowed to apply ed/ea to MIT

Eh eh ana kamen

Will you require financial aid?
(That changes your odds)

No. Finance is not a big problem.

I am also confusing about whether to apply for REA in Stanford. Maybe I should choose a lower school for ED just for safety.

ED is binding. You should not apply ED as a safety!

Thanks, but what should I choose for ED then? Or should I choose REA?

Just tell me which school do I have a greater chance.

I would apply to Stanford ED ONLY if you would rather attend there than MIT. ED means that you WILL enroll if admitted. you must withdraw all applications to other schools if you are admitted to a school ED.

First of all, Stanford DOES NOT have ED.

Secondly, please don’t assume that you will get thisthisthis score. Predicted test score don’t help people on here gauge your chances.

Thirdly, and most importantly, NOBODY except the admissions officers at those top schools with 5-9% acceptance rates can offer you a realistic prediction of your admission decision.

I think the only thing that would exponentially increase your chances at such schools is if you win a gold medal at an International Olympiad or something equivalent. People with that have very high admission success rates at top universities. Of course, it’s not guaranteed or anything, but it helps a lot!

Oh, gosh. Even if I got a chance to enter an International contest, I won’t have the time to prepare for it. Besides, I’m just asking for my chance of getting in. My available SAT right now is 2030.CR:580, Maths:800, Writing:650. It is bad and I know it, that’s why I’m thinking of retaking the exam. Anyway, thank you all the same.

As Phantasmagoria18 said no one can predict anything with such schools although national/international acclaim in something helps. it also sounds like your favorite schools don’t have Ed. since money is not a concern and you want reassurance see if a school you like has rolling admissions or non binding EA open to internationals.

With your current SATs, I don’t think you’ll have good chances with any of the schools that you have listed, except for maybe Georgia Tech. As MYOS suggested, apply to a school with rolling admissions so you’ll know that you’ll have a safety school. Just try to get the SATs up before you apply.

I looked at all the top 40 schools. Only a small fraction of them have EA, like Virginia, Boston college, Georgia and especially, Caltech. It seems that I must either find a top school(which is not my dream one) as ED or REA Stanford. Do anyone have some advise?

How often have you taken the Sat ? It looks bad to schools if you take it more than three times. If you haven’t taken it more than twice try again but that won’t guarantee anything. A striking essay that has a unique voice does as much
Go for Stanford Rea but think about it carefully. Have you only looked at national universities ? Check out the top 35 LACstoo in case they allow international students to apply EA.

Go for REA to Stanford.
Make sure your Essays are great for MIT.
make sure you highlight your research/academic work for your Caltech application.
Your scores (if you assumed them correctly) are great, shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Chance me back?

I’m also thinking about getting my SAT up. But I didn’t think about rolling before. Thanks for advise!

Haha, don’t sweat the CR score (or the writing score, for that matter). I know quite a few internationals who got into MIT and Stanford with scores and profiles similar to yours. However, if you are unable to get a 2250+ on your SAT, I don’t recommend applying to Caltech. From what I’ve seen, it’s much more objective than other colleges when it comes to admissions. Apply to Northwestern instead where your ability to pay the full fee matters. Also, they have a top engineering program with amazing recruitment.

Moreover, if you can pay the full fee, do apply to schools such as UCLA and USC. They all are very prestigious schools and are clawing to take full-paying internationals at the moment.

Also, Cornell is not a match. It’s very much a reach. It would be helpful to ED here, though. :)

So far I haven’t seen 1 EA in LACs. I have only taken once, and it’s half a year before.
