Initially, I told her to drop my foreign language class, Spanish, temporarily and I would resume next year but now I am starting to have doubts about my choice. I did some research and people said that it was ideal to take 4 years of foreign language but 3 years would suffice as well, but what about my situation? I thought about it and I realized by the time I get accepted into college, I still haven’t taken the Spanish regents! Would that count as 3 years even though they won’t see my foreign language regents grade AFTER they accept me? If I go through with my decision, I will have taken 2 years Spanish already, stopped, and then once again in senior year, would that affect me? I don’t want to drop any other classes because I believe they’re all important. I will be a junior this school year and my classes are: English, Pre-calc, Physics, AP Chem, AP statistics, AP US History, Leaders (gym class), Service period(necessary if you take leaders), math team and Spanish(remember I have to drop a class). Please help! What should I do
Leaders and Service Period? Two whole classes for …what?
It’s a gym class that teaches students about being a leader, it would be AP gym if there was such a thing. The service period is required for some reason. You help gym teachers manage regular gym classes and the service credit goes on your transcript. Volunteer work in school? Something along those lines. If I don’t want the service period, I will have to drop out of leaders all-together and go to regular gym. If it counts, I took it on sophomore year. I thought it would look great if I did it again in junior year.
The class sounds like teaching assistant.
Ummm, OK
This is truly a no-brainer; take regular gym and Spanish. There is absolutely, positively no way anybody could spin that Leaders and Service would be preferable to Spanish.
Are you trying for selective schools?
Math team is a class, and assume it is mandatory if you participate on the math team?
In what college on Earth would they consider a class taken during the school day as an EC?
I’d dump the Leaders/Service thing. You can’t ethically “double-dip” a class as an EC of any sort. We didn’t include the hours my son spent in band class for his ECs, we included any time spent outside of class.
Very shady.
Well I guess service isn’t really a class, it’s just… service, so yeah, it is practically a teaching assistant.
@skieurope Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, at this point, I think it’s better to stick with Spanish and just drop out of leaders and go to regular gym.
I agree with skieurope
I agree - drop leaders
Math Team is a class??!! LOL! What state is your school in? and yes, as people have said - Gym Leader!~!! Drop like a bad habit. What state does this all happen in?
