my counselor is leaving! yay! this probably sounds mean, but he knows absolutely nothing about college stuff. i'm wondering if i should contact the colleges i applied to and give them new contact information in case they ever have any questions. is it really necessary?

That would only be necessary if you also are moving or if you are changing schools......otherwise someone will take over for Mr. KnowNothing.

i'm guessing his email address and phone number would become invalid though.

All of his work related email will remain and a new counselor will handle communications. Remember this is his job......not his base for friends.

You're pretty lucky.

I'm so mad about what they did to me for my counselor.
We had 3 counselors freshmen year.

One is a lady who has been working as an adcom for 25 + years who gets many students in ivy leagues.

One is a lady who has been at our school for a long time who is very nice and gives students "confidential" information and help

One is a guy (who I had) who is the worst of the three because all he does is talk on the phone to his mom while your in his office and never gets anything done. He just gives you websites you know about and sends you off. Rarely helps students but I could deal with it.

NOW...they got a "Student Guidance Counselor" interning at our school and only about 5% of the students in the school get him. I have to be one of them. So now I have to go to this student counselor who has no clue at all...honestly, not to be arrogant, but I know more about the process than him. I saw him and he told me to get into college, I need to join clubs and get good grades (what a mystery!), he didn't even ask me about my plans/grades/ecs etc. When I got the letter that said they were switching my counselor, I was so happy until I saw it was this guy...there goes college.
