Hello. Sorry if this is the wrong section to ask.
So im currently a senior applying for colleges. One problem I have is asking my counselor for a recommendation. My teachers said I should get a letter of recommendation from a counselor because 1. it's their job and 2. they can mention things about me that teachers cant.
However the problem is I dont really know my counselor REALLY personally. I have talked to her many times and she probably remembers my name, but that's pretty much it. How can I approach her in a way that it won't become an awkward thing?

prepare an outline for her, detailing what you see as your strengths, and the areas you are working to improve/develop; basically, this should jive with your essay and application, and reinforce how you are ‘pitching’ yourself to the colleges. It doesn’t need to be a fancy essay - just phrases for her to read

attach a copy of your resume

attach your essays

attach a cover note explaining that you appreciate her assistance and hope the attached documents help her with the process

Some counselors probably know more about the students than the students realize.

Be quick about it and just ask: I was wondering if you would write my recommendations? If she says yes, do what previous poster said. Make sure that you give her information to work with because, like you said, she probably doesn’t know you that well…
