Hi guys! Just wondering what am I supposed to put under the "Counselor's Title" section of the app. My school doesn't have guidance counselors so I asked my teacher who's currently the head of her department this year but was also my form teacher last year to act as mine.

I don’t understand. Is there not a person (or a group of people) in your school who handles these Secondary School Reports for all the seniors who are applying to college? You should give the form to that person, regardless of his or her title, and not to a teacher of your choosing. Unless you go to a really tiny and unconventional school, where people just give the form to a teacher of their choosing.

As for this teacher, whatever her title is, that’s what you should put. The instructions on the form say that you’re supposed to give the form to your guidance counselor or other school official. They just want to know who’s completing the form.

I’m an international student so the system’s a little different here. It’s slightly complicated but to put it simply, my school just doesn’t have anyone in particular that handles these stuff for us. My best guess as to why is because of the demand – students who apply to study abroad at my current school are a rare occurrence. I apologize for any confusion caused.

And thank you for clearing this up, Sikorsky. Very much appreciated.

I see. In that case, I guess you are doing the right thing. Choose somebody in your school in a position of some authority, and have that person complete the form. A department head is probably a reasonable choice. Then you can just list her title, however it is listed within the school, on your application.

Best of luck to you.
