Hey our soon to be recognized frosh! Curious about what’s in the line-up for everyone? Gold? Silver? Any good stories about awesome parents/grandparents to go with some golds? Spill it! :)

Silver for me. :)

My Grandpa was in the Army Air Corps during WW2. So i'll be getting some sweet Goldies..:)

Daughter will wear GOLD!!! Husband served 20+ years.!!!!

Just silver. My grandad served in Korea, but that's it.

Question... if my grandfather spent 20+ years in the navy, does that count for gold prop and wings?

Don't know about my D. What are the rules? Hubby served in wartime but didn't do 20. Guess my D knows but I don't want to bug her to ask at this point. If I were to call her to bug her now there are lots of other things on the list to talking about! I guess she gets whatever she gets!

From the Sight Picture (section 2.8, item 10):

Cadets must wear cadet issue service and flight cap. Note: Prop and Wings Device. Upon
authorization from the Commandant, cadets are authorized to wear the standard chrome plated prop and
wings device on their flight caps. Cadets who are direct descendents of members of the Army Air
Corps, Women Air Force Service Pilots, have a parent with at least 20 years of military service, have a
parent that participated in combat as a member of any U.S. military service, or a parent that died in the
line of duty are authorized to wear the gold prop and wings device. Cadets may shine the device but
must not otherwise modify it (bending or sweeping the props).

If our DS receives an appointment...he will obviously have gold wings, since Bullet has 20 years, plus served in combat zones several times. This kind of reminds me about jump wings...if you jump into a combat zone as an active duty member you get gold (needless to say when Bullet did his jt with the 82nd AB, and he felt the plane turn back on their way to jump into Haiti in 94, he saw his chance of gold fade, at least that is what I remember)

Just out of curiosity what is the ratio of silver and gold? I don't think I ever recall cadets on summer rotations at any of our bases with gold. (It would stick out since silver wings are pedominant)

A lot more silver, but the number of Silver/Gold PW should be growing by at least two more in a couple of weeks. Potter and her roommate both should be gold. One question a lot of the 2011 parents are asking is if the Squadron will pin them that way, or if they will have to buy them at the store after recognition.

Side note for the 2012 parents, there are a couple of groups FAMNET and Yahoo parents groups that parents use during the year to keep up. The info here is usually a lot better and less contenious though.

squads will pin them on the 4 digs.

I'm hoping for SJ for ops this summer! Then you'll get some gold in there! ;)

Looking for a ride in an eagle...Hornet? SJ for OPs sounds like as fun a place as any, but wouldn't you rather see Misawa, Yakota, or Kadena?

So they do pin gold if they are authorized. Thanks Hornet.

I'm going to Japan in a couple weeks anyways. ;) And already have my 3 years in country. But, since ops is one west coast, one east coast, and one international, I'm hoping for SJ to be my east coast and a Japan base for international.

Main reason why I want SJ this year is due to a new ops rule. They instituted a policy that regardless of the laws of the country you're in, cadets may NOT drink before the age of 21. Since I hear so many stories of officers taking the cadets to bars and having a great time (stories, crud, etc.) with the expectation of being able to buy a round of beer overseas, I'd like to be able to sit there without having to have water! (mainly Germany and Italy I hear)

And an eagle ride would be sweet...

Potter wants Travis really bad, maybe next year. She can see old friends and family there.

Just got done talking with her about P&W, and she doesn't care what color they are as long as she gets them soon....Gotta be a common feeling now.

Yep. A lot of us are just hoping that the next 11 days will speed by.

Feel free to give her a quick kick in the pants if you see her lagging J. You will both have that shinny thing hanging from your flight cap soon.

haha, yeah, don't think potter would appreciate that too much though...

So hornet when do you expect to hit SJ? I am sure Bullet will meet you on the runway and bring you back to our house for dinner.

Don't expect to be playing crud at our club during the summer...no one goes, unless there is a promotion party, everyone is at the beach :) . SJ is famous for beach weekend, when all of the squadrons go to EC. Many acad grads do their retirement there (reason why, is they are typically the only ones with a DOR that gives them a retirement date in June, ROTC grads usually have a DOR in Sept/Oct) Our very best friend did his retirement ceremony on the beach...funny to see guys in flight suits standing on the beach with no jet behind them.

All of our CRUD tourneys are in the winter, but maybe we can convince Bullet to get some guys to go and you can see a real Crud game. It is always fun to watch bodies fly across the crud room :D Just remember if you are caught reading the rules you will never hear the end of it.

Of course you can also hope for a naming ceremony at the flying squadron, but you beter hope it's not in Bullets squadron, because he will make sure that hornet call sign is changed...I think he would really make sure if he knows that you will go back and make our ds pay for his fathers antics ;)

Bullet just chimed in and he says we should take you for Carolina pulled pork. There is one place that you will laugh when you enter it. First, you can smell the vinegar in the parking lot, and every picture on the wall is of a pig. Very disheartening to eat pork with a picture of a pig staring at you....WELCOME TO THE SOUTH.

LMAO! I am crossing my fingers for SJ. But, I have no say whatsoever! IF IF IF in the off chance I do get it, I will be sure to let you guys know! (It would be late June/early for ops).

When do you find out? How does the process work?
