Countdown to Acceptance Letters

I always pronounced it how it looked, but im not applying there and haven't heard someone from the school actually ever say it

haha, i never pronounced it because i'm a vocab geek and will die if confronted about pronouncing something wrong. seriously. @_@;

i'm just worried that like, i go into an interview or something, and i pronounce the name wrong. that'll be one heck of an embarrassing experience D:

i hear people say choate with one syllable. like how you would pronounce chote.

i was going to apply there, but after i went there, i decided not to. no offense to the choate people here, but i like Deerfield a lot better.

juhztinleeeeeee, if you don't mind me asking,
Why did your campus visit to Choate change your mind about applying there? Thing is, both Choate and Deerfield are schools I'm applying to, but unfortunately I haven't visited any of them yet. What are they like?

Great question!
Yeah, another girl .. Um, I forgot her name (I can look it up if anybody's really curious), said that she visited Choate and fell in love, while others (like justin? or juhztin, whichever you prefer :P) got turned off by it.. Was it anything in particular, or was it just the general vibe?

Due to limited assets, I probably won't be lucky enough to visit the campus, but opt for a phone interview so I'm sort of worried. What if a school looks great on the brochure, but when I arrive in the fall (if I'm even lucky enough, har har) it's completely different than what I expected/wanted?
& Does anybody think there's a big difference between on-campus/phone interviews ? Interviews ARE pretty vital and I'd hate to miss out just because I couldn't fly there.. Not to mention how awkward I am on the phone!

EDIT: Sorry, the name of the girl was Saer!

Thanks. I'll actually be coming to the states in about 3 days and touring the schools the following week.
By the way, 70 days left till March 10.

I've heard Choate is correctly pronounced'chote', but I'm not too sure. I pronounce it as as "cho-it" for my own personal pleasure, though :)

their kids call it "chote" :)
I know this because I saw it in a CD :D

I know it's 'Chote' because of Family Guy, haha.

family guy??? when did family guy mention choate??

im sure if you're accepted you can see if its the fit by revisit days.. if you could skip a few days of school that is

Thats annoying to say...Im gunna stick with Cho-ate

haha it's Justin.

I actually favored Choate over Deerfield, until I went there. This is mere opinion of one person, but my best advice is, when you go visit the schools, to try to visualize yourself as a student there.

the reason why I got turned off by Choate was because the school seems very separated. the school buildings are all spread across the two main streets (Christian street and some other one). I don't, but I just couldn't visualize myself in Choate and spending the next 4 years there, whereas in Deerifield, the buildings are structured in such locations so that it forms a gigantic quad area in the center, which i really liked.

also, i found out Choate is more of math/science favoring school and deerfield is more of english/history/humanities, which is not to discriminate choate's english/history departments or deerfield's math/science department. choate is a great school in general, but when im considering other schools of equal prestige, choate fell out of the list. but don't let this be your discouragement to applying to Choate please.

Until I visited, I liked Deerfield more than Choate. But after my tours, Choate was higher simply because I didn't connect with the tour guide at Deerfield at all. I found her boring and unenthusiastic, and plus I saw Choate and Deerfield in the same day, and Choate was the first BS I've ever seen. So, it was hard not to be thinking about Choate when the Deerfield guide was droning on about whatever. But looking back, Deerfield seems like a better fit for me. Personally, though, I think the facilities at St. Paul's and Hotchkiss are wayyyyy nicer than both Choate and Deerfield.

have you seen the architecture at st. paul's?! i mean, whoa!

Yeah I remember family guy mentioning Choate as well ... cant remember which episode though :(

Yeah, and oddly enough, speaking of Family Guy, Seth Mcfarlan (creator of Family Guy) went to Kent School.

I kinda got turned off by Choate when I went there as well. It just seemed too big and I don't like Wallingford. Never have.

Huh, that's funny... I really didn't like St. Paul's.

The only part of the campus that trumped Exeter and Andover were the exteriors, church, and admissions office (wow). The insides were a little lack-luster, the cafeteria wasn't the greatest - just like a hospital cafeteria (brutal, sorry) and the whole campus felt unpopulated.

The **Family Guy episode/b: It's where Stewie and Bryan hold a garage sale, and then Brian accidentally sells Rupert (Stewie's teddy), so they go searching for it. They go to the buyer's address and house, but it turns out he's moved to Aspen.
So, naturally, they go on an adventure to Aspen to find the guy. To coax him to give the teddy bear back, Brian suggests that they have a downhill skiing race, to which he replies "Well, I did go to Choate, so I suppose." - thus pronouncing it Chote.

Haha... yeah, I had a phase.

Everyone hope for the big envelopes

Lol people keep talking about these envelopes...HOW big are they? I mean its been hammered in on these boards to look for the BIG envelope and not that small little letter.

if you search choate on wikipedia, it comes out in "media" or some section like that ;)

for me envelope acceptances aren't too big a deal because i'm checking 6 of my 8 schools online (i'm going to be away from march 11, which is march 10 in america) of course after I check them i'll become even more disappointed when i see them in real life, but oh well.

sometimes small little letters were acceptances. i know this sounds soooo out-there, but the chance that a little letter could be an acceptance is higher this year just because of the economy. middlesex didn't send their materials to international applicants (domestic as well? i wouldn't know) because of the economy, so somehow I think a few schools aren't going to be sending posters and flipbooks and mugs and other wonderful things.
