I can never imagine myself dressing preppy.........................................
if i HAVE to wear it, then i must but if i dont then i'll be sticking to my regular streetwear stuff.

here in cali if you wear preppy things youll get baggggggged on.

I'm pretty sure that not absolutely everyone at boarding school dresses as preppily as everyone here seems to think - there will always be the people who don't feel the need to do what everyone else is doing, and all the better for the schools. These places are supposed to be diverse in more than the national origin of their students, and I'm pretty sure that they uphold that reputation. If you want to dress like a prep, then go ahead as it's perfectly acceptable and fairly common at boarding school. If you don't want to dress like a prep, that's great too because, again, not everyone is like that at boarding school.

It takes a real person to realize that they're not defined by their clothes and their material possessions. Dress the way you feel comfortable. Oh, and if you feel the need to post what you wear, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT POST HOW MUCH YOUR CLOTHES COST (benevolent4them)

I don't mean preppy- I mean DRESS CODE APPROPRIATE. Choate requires a shirt to either have a collar or sleeves, and be relatively dressy- no t shirts, etc. No jeans, either.

Do realize that there is a dress code at some schools, and some people will need to change some of their wardrobe if they attend the school. Just because some people need to change their wardrobe a bit to make it school appropriate doesn't mean that they're a follower or whatever. I think that if you're going to BS, you already are an individual. At least, in my mind.

No, weekends I'll still wear my Target graphic t-shirts and Charlotte Russe jeans from clearance, and my converse with the ratty multi-colored laces. My purple plaid fedora and my Pisces pendant. During the week, however, I will wear more button down shirts, polos, sweaters, etc.

I personally do not care what brand name you wear, or even what clothes you wear. I wear any clothes that I think are cute, even if they might not fit into one category, such as "preppy". Clothes do not have to be expensive to be cute, and what people wear should not really matter, it shoudl matter what their personality is.

My personality is expressed through my clothes, and my friends do the same, so we do kind of hold someone to the way they present themselves. Not brand names, obviously, but creativity, simplicity, cutesy-ness! lol
Like, a kid at my school loves wearing Blizzard, World of Warcraft, Everquest t-shirts. He's a big MMO fan!
I wear cutesy, Asian art-inspired, graphic tees. I'm into the alternative, punky look.
It does depend on how you present yourself, on occasion.

It is my personal opinion that presentation is everything. I'm the kind of person who wouldn't be caught dead in sweatpants, and I wear makeup just about every day of the week. I wear a lot of jeans, but they're dressier ones. I wear whatever looks nice; I get a lot of ideas out of Lucky and Marie Claire (obviously I can't afford anything in either magazine). It is a rare day that I leave the house without making sure I look nearly immaculate.

How you show yourself to the world on a daily basis has a direct correlation to the amount of respect you have for yourself and others and how you want others to percieve you.

1 should be following the dress code and if there is no dress code

2 should be presenting yourself in a way that represents who you are but is still presentable.

If you keep this in mind you'll be set!

I personally think that stuff from old navy/ american eagle/ mixed with some target and uggs would be sufficent. This winter I got some "ugg looking" boots from American eagle for way cheaper than $130 and they are still holding up in snowy weather. They are literally the same boot minus the logo. The east coast weather is brutal so you almost HAVE to have some sort of boot. If I get in I plan on doing my annual back-to-school usual shopping trip because most things @ ON and AE would be perfect. Lots of sweaters, jeans, khakis, scarves, jackets, and regular shirts in all different colors. My splurge item might be Uggs but I might take some in addition to my AE boots. Plus I am keeping in mind that I have to wash my own stuff and i don't want to mess up a bunch of name brand stuff with my limited washing experience. imoh.:D

Best of luck to all!
32 days and counting.....who else is gonna cry tears of joy if they get in?

32 days. I don't care about that statistic.

I only have 16 SCHOOL DAYS left until March 10th! I have an approaching February break. I don't mind days without school. I can chill with friends, play bball and lax and stuff. I really am beginning to hate school though. It feels so meaningless now that grades don't really count. 16 more days of tedious painfull work. I am so excited!

Pft, I didn't even know of boarding school until October 08 (scratch that - I knew of one boarding school, Hogwarts), and I didn't decide until mid-November. Meaning, by the end of whole shabam, I had a cold, a massive headache and basically no social life whatsoever!

My sister goes to BS, so since I was about 10 I always had somewhat of a desire to attend BS. It wasn't until September that I really got involved. I started researching schools and requesting viewbooks and all. God that felt so long ago.
